I read on some sites that the normal number of teeth at the top and bottom are 16 each, adding to 32. I am getting braces soon and i counted my teeth, I have 14 at the bottom (2 wisdoms didn't grow out yet) and 10[??] at the top. I recently got two premolars on each side removed and also the wisdoms didn't grow out yet. Is that normal? I think I'm missing a premolar on each side of my top set of teeth.
Number of teeth?
32 is the full compliment (3 molars, 2 premolars, 1 canine and 2 incisors in each quadrant). Often people don't have wisdom teeth, or ocasionally are congenitally missing teeth elsewhere in the mouth. It is more likely that some teeth just haven't erupted yet. Interestingly some people get extra teeth as well, called supernumeraries if you are getting braces soon then your orthodontist will have taken an x-ray to see all your teeth (probably on the one film), and would tell you if there is a problem with numbers, or eruption patterns. You could always just ask him/her.
