What causes a cat to loss two canine teeth completely and suddenly?

Earlier today, I came across a feline canine tooth in my basement. When I checked my cat's teeth, both her top and bottom canines (on her right side) are missing! I have no idea how it happened, or when. She is not a pure-breed. She is about nine years old. Currently in good health, although she did have liver problems about two years ago. I think the teeth were lost within the past month. Anyone know what might be going on?

(I also adopted another cat a couple weeks ago, but it was a cat she'd already been been around for awhile, she just hadn't been living with. The new cat is completely healthy.)

What causes a cat to loss two canine teeth completely and suddenly?
Awww Poor Thing.. :o(

Your cat probably bit on something really hard,

i recomend you take her to the vet to get checked up in her teeth. Dont worry it doesnt cost much.!!
Reply:Yes, I agree. To the vet!
Reply:Kittens lose teeth and grow new ones all the time, but you said your cat is 9 . She may have a gum disease that is causing her to lose teeth. She may have broken them eating something also.As cats age their teeth get brittle and sometimes break.Your vet could tell you if they broke or if it's gum disease
Reply:Cats age and loose teeth normally as they age.

If she is eating OK, her gums and other teeth look healthy and if she doesn't seam to be having any problems, I wouldn't worry about it.

She could have bitten something hard and lost them.

Have your vet check them on her next check up visit.
Reply:eek!

as a rule i dont like cats, but...

i understand how much we love our pets... any pet....

regretfully, it sounds fairly serious....

I'm not vet, but in humans something like that only happens when an imune deficiency such as cancer or AIDS is present.

Better make sure its something like old age or nutritional and not feline leukemia or feline immuno deficient syndrome.

Good luck though :) !!!

and take that kitty to the Vet!
Reply:Your cat could have lost her teeth due to some sort of trauma, though if she is an indoor cat and gets along with the other cat in your house, its not very likely she would knock both front canines out like that. She could possibly have gum disease and/or a severe infection. Does her mouth/saliva smell very badly? Did the teeth look normal or were there any black or rotted areas near the roots? I would bring her to the vet as soon as possible, an untreated infection in her mouth can lead to further tooth loss/pain while eating and drinking, and she could become very sick if it begins to spread beyond her mouth. The mouth is a very sensitive area and there are many types of bacteria in it, good and bad, even more so for cats since that is the primary way they clean themselves.
Reply:It sounds like your cat has severe gum/tooth disease...you should take her to a veterinarian.
Reply:I doubt this was "sudden." There could have been things festering in her mouth for quite some time and you just did not know it.

I suspect it's some sort of gum disease or something similar. This is a common problem in cats. (Despite all that dry food everyone keeps insisting helps their teeth.) I would definitely have her checked by a vet, because there may be things that you won't be able to see just checking yourself. And some of these things can cause a lot of other problems. Gum or other mouth diseases are starting to be linked with all kinds of things, plus any infections can spread.

If the vet recommends a dental, get it done ASAP. Might just take a good cleaning, or even the removal of more teeth and maybe even roots. This won't hurt her. She can still eat wet food perfectly fine, which is better for her anyway.
Reply:cats naturally lose their teeth as they age just like people :D especially if they have never been brushed or cleaned. i would recommend taking the cat to the vet for a dental cleaning because there might be some teeth in there that are rotting and need to be extracted.

Do Creationists lie about a missing link in evolution? Ever hear of Australopithecines?

Creationist Arguments: Australopithecines

In 1950, Wilfred Le Gros Clark published a paper which definitively settled the question of whether the australopithecines were apes or not. He performed a morphological study (based on the shape and function) of teeth and jaws, since these formed most of the fossil evidence. By studying human and modern ape fossils, Le Gros Clark came up with a list of eleven consistent differences between humans and apes. Looking at A. africanus and robustus (the only australopithecine species then known), he found that they were humanlike rather than apelike in every characteristic. Judged by the same criteria, A. afarensis falls somewhere between humans and apes, and possibly closer to the apes (Johanson and Edey 1981). White et al. (1994) did not judge A. ramidus by these criteria, but it is clear that ramidus is even more chimpanzee-like than afarensis. The ramidus arm bones also display a mixture of hominid and ape characteristics.

Solly Zuckerman attempted to prove with biometrical studies (based on measurements) that the australopithecines were apes. Zuckerman lost this debate in the 1950's, and his position was abandoned by everyone else (Johanson and Edey 1981). Creationists like to quote his opinions as if they were still a scientifically acceptable viewpoint.

Charles Oxnard (1975), in a paper that is widely cited by creationists, claimed, based on his multivariate analyses, that australopithecines are no more closely related, or more similar, to humans than modern apes are. Howell et al.(1978) criticized this conclusion on a number of grounds. Oxnard's results were based on measurements of a few skeletal bones which were usually fragmentary and often poorly preserved. The measurements did not describe the complex shape of some bones, and did not distinguish between aspects which are important for understanding locomotion from those which were not. Finally, there is "an overwhelming body of evidence", based on the work of nearly 30 scientists, which contradicts Oxnard's work. These studies used a variety of techniques, including those used by Oxnard, and were based on many different body parts and joint complexes. They overwhelmingly indicate that australopithecines resemble humans more closely than the living apes.

Creationists often cite Oxnard's qualifications, and use of computers to perform his calculations, with approval. This is special pleading; many other scientists are equally qualified, and also use computers. Gish (1993) states that "[a] computer doesn't lie, [a] computer doesn't have a bias". True enough, but the results that come out of a computer are only as good as the data and assumptions that go in. In this case, the primary assumption would seem to be that Oxnard's methods are the best method of determining relationships. This seems doubtful, given some of the other unusual results of Oxnard's study (1987). For example, he places Ramapithecus as the ape closest to humans, and Sivapithecus as closely related to orang-utans, even though the two are so similar that they are now considered to be the same species of Sivapithecus.

Less controversially, Oxnard also claims that, while probably bipedal, australopithecines did not walk identically to modern humans. Creationists sometimes quote this conclusion in a highly misleading manner, saying Oxnard proved that australopithecines did not walk upright, and then adding, as an afterthought (or in Willis' (1987) case, not at all) "at least, not in the human manner".

Creationists are generally reluctant to accept that australopithecines, including Lucy, were bipedal. A statement by Weaver (1985) that "Australopithecus afarensis ... demonstrates virtually complete adaptation to upright walking" is dismissed by Willis (1987) as "a preposterous claim". Willis adds: "Many competent anthropologists have carefully examined these and other "Australopithicine" [sic] remains and concluded that Lucy could not walk upright."

Willis' evidence for this consists of a statement by Solly Zuckerman made in 1970; a 1971 statement from Richard Leakey that australopithecines "may have been knuckle-walkers", and a quote from Charles Oxnard about the relationship between humans, australopithecines and the apes. In fact, none of these quotes refer to Lucy. Two of them were made before Lucy, and A. afarensis, was even discovered (and the third was made very soon afterwards, before Lucy had been studied).

Even in 1970, Zuckerman's views had long since been largely abandoned. In what is obviously a fabrication, Willis says that Leakey "referred to Lucy as an ape who did not walk upright", three years before Lucy was discovered. Leakey was merely making a suggestion (about robust australopithecines) which he soon retracted, not stating a firm opinion, and he has since stated (1994) that Lucy "undoubtedly was a biped". Oxnard (1975; 1987) has some unorthodox opinions about the australopithecines, but the Oxnard quote supplied by Willis discusses neither bipedality nor A. afarensis. Elsewhere in the same paper that Willis refers to, Oxnard (1975) repeatedly mentions that australopithecines may have been bipedal, and he has since stated (1987) that the australopithecines, including Lucy, were bipedal.

Gish (1985) has a long discussion of the debate about Lucy's locomotion. He quotes extensively from Stern and Susman (1983), who list many apelike features of A. afarensis and argue that it spent a significant amount of time in the trees. As Gish admits, none of the scientists he mentions deny that Lucy was bipedal, but he goes on to suggest, with no evidence or support, that A. afarensis may have been no more bipedal than living apes, which are well adapted to quadrupedality and only walk on two legs for short distances. By contrast, the feet, knees, legs and pelvises of australopithecines are strongly adapted to bipedality. Gish's conclusion is strongly rejected by Stern and Susman, and, apparently, everyone else:

"That bipedality was a more fundamental part of australopithecine behavior than in any other living or extinct nonhuman primate is not in serious dispute."

"... we must emphasize that in no way do we dispute the claim that terrestrial bipedality was a far more significant component of the behavior of A. afarensis than in any living nonhuman primate." (Stern, Jr. and Susman 1983)

"The most significant features for bipedalism include shortened iliac blades, lumbar curve, knees approaching midline, distal articular surface of tiba nearly perpendicular to the shaft, robust metatarsal I with expanded head, convergent hallux (big toe), and proximal foot phalanges with dorsally oriented proximal articular surfaces. (McHenry 1994)

Gish writes as if showing that A. afarensis did not "walk upright in the human manner" is all that is needed to disqualify it as a human ancestor. But there is no reason that bipedality, when it first arose, had to be identical to human bipedality; that final step could have occurred later. As Stern and Susman (1983) state:

"In our opinion A. afarensis is very close to what can be called a "missing link". It possesses a combination of traits entirely appropriate for an animal that had traveled well down the road toward full-time bipedality ..."

Creationist John Morris writes:

"From the neck down, certain clues suggested to Johanson that Lucy walked a little more erect than today's chimps. This conclusion, based on his interpretation of the partial hip bone and a knee bone, has been hotly contested by many paleoanthropologists." (Morris 1994)

Almost everything in this quote is a distortion (Johanson's and Lucy's names are about the only exceptions). "Certain clues suggested" doesn't mention that the whole find screamed "bipedality" to every qualified scientist who looked at it. "a little more erect", when everyone believes that Lucy was fully erect. "the partial hip bone and a knee bone", when Lucy included almost a complete pelvis and leg (taking mirror imaging into account, and excluding the foot). "has been hotly contested", when no reputable paleoanthropologist denies that Lucy was bipedal. The debates are about whether she was also arboreal, and about how similar the biomechanics of her locomotion was to that of humans. Given that we have most of Lucy's leg and pelvis, one has to wonder what sort of fossil evidence it would take to convince creationists of australopithecine bipedality.

To support the idea that australopithecines are just apes, Parker says:

"In their critique of the Leakeys, Johanson and White (1980) noted: 'Modern chimpanzees, by this definition [Richard Leakey's] would be classified as A. africanus.' Apes after all?" (Morris and Parker 1982)

When the paper by Johanson and White is examined, it is apparent that Parker has taken their quote out of context in a way that almost reverses its meaning. Leakey did not call A. africanus a chimp, nor did Johanson and White accuse him of doing so. They criticized Leakey's definition because it was imprecise enough to also include chimps. Of course, such a criticism only makes sense if A. africanus is not a chimp.

In 1987, creationist Tom Willis accused Donald Johanson of fraud, claiming that the skeleton known as "Lucy" consisted of bones that had been found at two sites about 2.5 km (1.5 miles) apart. Willis had actually confused two separate finds which belong to the same species. (This was in spite of the fact that a best-selling book (Johanson and Edey 1981) has photos of both fossils: AL 129-1 is a right knee, while Lucy has a right femur and a left tibia.) This was a spectacular error which could hardly have been made by anyone who had done the most elementary research, but that didn't stop many other creationists from picking up the claim and repeating it. For a full history of this claim, read the talk.origins knee-joint FAQ file (Lippard 1997).

Creationists rarely address the issue of why australopithecines have a foramen magnum at the bottom of the skull. Gish (1985) criticizes Dart's reasoning that the Taung baby walked upright, based on the position of its foramen magnum. Gish correctly states that the position of the foramen magnum is closer in juvenile apes and humans than it is in adults (in apes, it moves backwards during growth), and concludes that Dart was unjustified in analyzing this feature on a juvenile skull. This is the same criticism that Dart originally faced from scientists, but Gish fails to mention that later evidence proved Dart's analysis correct and silenced his critics.

Creationists also rarely mention australopithecine teeth. Gish says that "[Dart] pointed out the many ape-like features of the skull, but believed that some features of the skull, and particularly of the teeth, were man-like". (Note the misleading implication that the apelike features really exist, while the humanlike ones are a figment of Dart's imagination.) Gish disputes this, pointing out that the molar teeth of africanus are extremely large. What Gish does not tell readers is that this is one of the few differences between them and human teeth. When the teeth of the Taung child could be properly examined, Dart's claim was strongly confirmed, and is now generally accepted:

"In fact, though the molars were larger than is now normal, most of the teeth [of the Taung child] could have belonged to a child of today." (Campbell 1988)

Do Creationists lie about a missing link in evolution? Ever hear of Australopithecines?
You continue to make excellent points. Bravo.

Yes, I have heard of Australopithecines. And most Creationists don't do their share of research.

Reply:There is no such thing as a "Missing Link". Evolution does not work that way and science does not claim that it does. Transitional and Intermediate forms exist in abundance, however. Report It

Reply:Campbell proved he can talk like a scientist, that's about all the merit that article has about a "missing link".
Reply:More like stretch the truth to try and prove it wrong. I find it funny that they fault evolution, when all scientist agree that they do not have every detail worked out, but 98.95% or some odd number agree that we did in fact come from some sort of evolution, wheter a creator made the first organisms is not in their concern.

They agree that there is a few missing links in evolution left to be worked out, but there is a missing chain-link fence in most religions lol.
Reply:WOW- you are stupid arent you. its an ape. Get current on your science. You can cry about it all you want-its an ape.
Reply:Just because everyone agrees on something, does not mean it's true. And many scientist, just like anyone else, because we are human, go into a study without a clear mind, looking to support a theory.

Instead of slowly approaching it, we can build on something that we suppose is truth, without really thinking openly and honestly. But I am no biologist, so that is all I can say for now.

And does it really make you feel good inside to link yourself with an animal.

Why are there still monkeys then? Did the higher species not kill them off? I have heard of all kinds of crazy scenarios for this idea, and actually, it seems like they have to keep going back and rethinking it.

Should I be concerned with my son's baby teeth?

This evening, my son lost one of his molars. It looks like there is already a new tooth coming in. Once I looked at the baby tooth he lost, it looked as if part of it was missing. I don't know if the tooth that is in his mouth is part of the baby tooth. Should I be concerned?

Should I be concerned with my son's baby teeth?
It sounds like he lost the tooth normally. When an adult tooth is coming in it pushes on the root of the baby tooth and causes it to resorb (disappear). It would be very helpful to know your son's age. See this site, it may be helpful

http://www.ada.org/public/topics/tooth_e...

If he is not in pain and doesn't have any sharp edges, you can always give your Dr. a call. He should be having dental cleanings every 6 months, maybe you are close to the date of his appointment?

Good luck

JAMRDH- a dental hygienist
Reply:Your dentist will want to check out your son's molar. When in doubt, always have it checked out. You never know!!! It's better to be safe than sorry.
Reply:go to the dentist and he will tell you, how old is your son?

should be nothing to be concerned about.
Reply:i would give it a day or so...its a baby tooth that you pulled..they tend to look a little funny... alot of times the reason they come out is because the tooth underneath is pushing it out of the way...if its extremely white...its the new tooth..if its the color of the baby tooth...kinda yellow...or beige i guess in color would probably be more the word im looking for...then it is the baby tooth...the baby tooth is dead so its gonna change colors... a new tooth will be white cause its still living
Reply:I work for a pediatric dentist depending on your child's age, it sounds like he is between 9-12 years old, the bicuspid is probably what you are seeing in the mouth. However, sometimes there can be peices of the baby tooth left behind. I wouldn't be concerned but it wouldn't be a bad idea to have him checked to verify that that is what it is.
Reply:The roots of baby teeth usually resorb as the permanent adult teeth start coming in, which is why when baby teeth fall out, they look like their missing part of or all of the lower (root) part. Chances are, the tooth you see in the mouth is the new tooth, which caused the baby tooth to not look whole. No need for concern.
Reply:If you have it, it is a good idea to take it to take the lost tooth to the dentist to be on the safe side.

I think children do have primary (baby) molars, which if I remember correctly, come out around age 9+.

If you feel concerned and are looking for immediate information, check a website like the American Dental Association. You should be able to find out what you need to know there. If you are still concerned after that, I would again, check with his dentist.
Reply:I don't know what part of the tooth was missing, but it's not uncommon for the root to have been dissolved during this process. If you're concerned, and the new tooth doesn't come up correctly, make an appointment.
Reply:hard to say without seeing. usually most of the root on baby teeth are resorbed as the permanent teeth push them out of the way. does the crown or top part of the tooth look fully intact? take him to the dentist.

Is it normal to have a crown removed when you have your wisdom teeth extracted?

I just got all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out and when i took the gauze out of my mouth i notice my crown is missing on my molar that I had a root canal. This tooth was next to a wisdom tooth that was starting to cut through the gum. If this is normal, shouldn't someone have told me at the dentist office that they had to remove it? I didn't find out until I got home and took the gauze out. Now I guess I'm going to have to pay to have a new crown put on??? I'm going to call the dentist office on Monday to see if this is normal. I thought I would see if this has happened to anyone else.

Is it normal to have a crown removed when you have your wisdom teeth extracted?
If the crown came off during the surgical procedure the doctor should have told you. It can be recemented after the bleeding stops and you heal up some but should have been recemented with a temporary cement while you were there. In any case, the crown was loosened during the procedure and you should not have to pay for a new one. You need to call your dentist right now and not wait until Mon. to find out where your crown is.
Reply:This is not normal, if for some reason they had to remove it they should have told u. Possibly it broke when they were extracting your tooth, doubtful. It could of loosened, u could of swolled it(which wouldn't harm u). If something happened while u were there to the crown they should have told u. Maybe too they cut the crn off to get to the wisdom tooth, but that would be something they should have told u defintely. Sounds like someone messed up.Good Luck, I hope if someone did they don't say u probably lost it and fess up so u don't have to pay all that $ for a new one. But u and I both know the world doesn't always work that way. Good Luck
Reply:..in addition to what Doc said, when you call the office, ask them to look in the Red Bag as well.

~Sure hope you find it!

Teeth brackets falling out?

Hey, I just had brackets put on my teeth yesturday. No wires yet.

Anyways, at night I brushed my teeth for two minutes like they said to and then went to sleep. When I woke up it felt like I was missing a bracket or two on the right side, and when I look in the mirror there is a tooth without a bracket between two teeth that do have brackets.

So I'm worried that I may have lost the bracket sleeping or something by biting while sleeping. Is it possible for your brackets to just fall out like that?

And does it cost money to get a new bracket? How much?

Teeth brackets falling out?
it doesn't cost any money to replace the bracket, just time. it is possible for your bracket to fall out during sleep if they weren't cemented well enough. call your orthodontist and they will set you up for an appointment to come back. no worries!

HELP! My 9 yr. old cat has teeth problems!?

Her teeth are rotting away...2 or 4...i cant remember, are missing!! Only a red spot is left! She doesn't chew her food anymore, she swallows it whole! What's wrong with her teeth??

HELP! My 9 yr. old cat has teeth problems!?
She needs dental treatment fast, it could cause kidney damage if she is left like this.
Reply:I would suggest that you take her to a vet
Reply:Pets need dental care just like humans do. They should be seeing the vet yearly and get yearly dental cleaning. Get her a dental appointment at your vet's as soon as possible. They will clean and repair her teeth. After the professional cleaning, you can start cleaning her teeth at home to help prevent further problems. The vet will show you the proper way to do this.
Reply:take it to the vet, and ask for some vitamins and treatment!
Reply:Cats and dogs get dental problems just like people do. If you don't keep up on their dental health, they will loose teeth. She probably got gingivitis and her teeth rotted out.
Reply:Many cat guardians don't realize that we have to take care of our cat's teeth. I am not putting you down becuase I only realized that myself when my own cat's teeth got really really bad and had to have 4 extractions and a thorough cleaning at the vet's. Gingivitis, periodontal disease can cause many health and well-being issues in our cats. Your kitty may have been having really bad plaque and tartar build-up going on for a long time. This causes gingivitis, then periodontal disease, toothaches, tooth recensions and tooth loss. Your cat is not chewing probably becuase it hurts yo do so. What you need to do as soon as possible is to have your cat's mouth seen to by the vet. A thourough teeth cleaning at the minimum but I suspect your kitty will have to have a few extractions too. But of you get that done, your cat will Thank you for it becuase it will mean a pain-free mouth, better smelling breath, bacteria-free blood and a healthier happier kitty. My cat became a totally happier cat after I had his tooth issues fixed. When you take your cat to the vet for the denatl work, don't forget to ask for blood test to check if your cat's organs are healthy enough to undergo anesthesia.
Reply:Take her to the vet. Not much you can do over the internet.
Reply:She's got cavities and dental problems just like people get. She probably has gum disease, too. Please get her to the vet as she's likely in a lot of pain! You may have to have some or all pulled, but she can get by with no teeth, esp. if she's an inside cat.

Some cats, for whatever reason, have more problems than others. I had a cat that struggled with dental issues, and we eventually had them all pulled.

Please, please, take her to the vet.
Reply:Well what I have learned in my experience with Pure Breeds at least. Is they have tendency to have a genetic defect that causes them to be "allergic" to the tooth enamel. It gives the gums a bright red inflammed look. The strange thing about it is both of my cats teeth were bright white not one ounce of tarter ever on them. It was suggested to me as well to have the teeth cleaned and each time a vet told me this I would have them look inside the mouth and they would be amazed. But their breath was horrible. Not sure if this what your cat has or not but same treatment will work. I finally got a farm vet not a specialist to pull all teeth behind the top bottom fangs. Leaving all the front teeth and FANGS so tongue will not hang out and for looks. The minute I did this both cats were 100% better health wise and beathe etc.... They began to play more and were more social. I think they were in pain. (do not go to specialist they wanted to charge me $800.00 I only paid farm vet $155.00)

Forgot one thing if you do nothing it is terrible for health like kidneys %26amp; heart and if the cat survives they will eventually fall out by themselves.
Reply:I would definitely take her to the vet asap. If you cat is an outdoor cat, I would make sure she gets an FIV test.

Bad breath and teeth are signs of this disease.
Reply:I would strongly recommend that your cat see a vet, she is probably in need of a dental cleaning and may even need some antibiotics to treat her infected gums. Please see a vet as bad teeth lead to other health problems in both dogs and cats. Good luck to your kitty

Retained k9 baby teeth with no k9 adult teeth?

i'm a bit devastated b/c my 8 month old shih tzu just got his upper baby k9 teeth (2) removed even when the xrays showed that there was no adult k9 teeth.

talking with other doggy owners they have been telling me that the baby teeth didn't have to be removed (they think that the vet is just trying to scam more money out of me)

prior surgery, i expressed this concern to the vet saying that if the xrays showed no adult teeth, then can they not pull out the baby teeth, but she said that it would be prone to infection and that the chances of no adult teeth is rare.

sigh, i just want to know, if the baby teeth were left alone, would that have been okay????? i mean, why fix something when its not broken???

i mean, my dog seems to be in more pain than when he was netuered!!! and he's missing is most important upper fangs!!!!

PLEASE REPLY!!!!, I FEEL SO BAD FOR MY PUP....

Retained k9 baby teeth with no k9 adult teeth?
It is very unusual for there to be NO adult teeth. And retained deciduous teeth (baby teeth) often lead to all sorts of other problems including 2 teeth occupying the same space.

I once saw a dog that had an adult tooth come in behind the baby tooth and it created a huge ulcer on the roof of the dogs mouth. The dog couldn't eat. That is an extreme example of course, but bite alignments can cause trouble chewing and certainly infection because often the retained tooth is pushing against something that it shouldn't, like the gums or another tooth, which then leads to infection.

You did the right thing. Better to have them removed now then having have them removed later when he already has an infection or a major overcrowding problem.

I wonder if perhaps the adult teeth were not on the xray simply because the teeth were in a slightly awkward location due to the fact that the baby teeth were still in place(the adult teeth can not erupt normally is there is already another tooth in its place). Or is it possible that somehow the adult teeth had already come in and the baby teeth were just extra and already overcrowding?

Please don't worry, you did the right thing, and you are sparing your puppy a bigger and more painful problem later. Your veterinarian was making the best suggestion for your pet's long term health. If you are really in doubt- schedule a 2nd opinion with another vet to put your mind at ease.

I've attached some links with more information about deciduous teeth and dental care for dogs.
Reply:The baby teeth really needed to come out regardless of the fact that there are adult teeth or not. You did do the right thing. I don't believe you were scammed or ripped off. And he isn't in more pain than when he was neutered. Ever had a tooth pulled? It's not that bad.
Reply:It was the right thing to pull those baby teeth. Just because they aren't showing on x-ray doesn't mean that they aren't there. IT is very rare for them to not have some adult K9's coming in later. he will be fine and I assure you that he should get those teeth. Those baby teeth would have either came out anyway, or they would have caused him a lot of trouble with ear infections, mouth infections, etc. He will be fine.

What happens if you miss about 3 days of brushing teeth.....?

But you floss once a day and use mouth wash morning and night.

Only for 3 days no more!

What happens if you miss about 3 days of brushing teeth.....?
Shoot! You would ask this question when I've been too busy to do anything! I can already see the plaque building up, %26amp; I say to myself: SELF! The longer you let it go, (brushing, flossing, mouth wash), the worse it's going to be when you go to the dentist! Seems such a minor thing, takes such little time--but SOMETIMES there really isn't time. How do we set our priorities? I always seem to be at the bottom of the list %26amp; just drift away off the page. So, why am I here??? I just need a break! I'd certainly advise to do all three, but I don't!
Reply:You can build up plaque on your teeth and end up with some bad breath regardless of the mouth wash. You really need to brush. Flossing and mouthwash alone won't cut it.
Reply:Id say the flossing and mouth wash helps so it isnt terrible. But you be best if you could brush.
Reply:You get a lot of plaque....
Reply:Probably nothing too severe, just as long as this doesn't happen all the time, but you're breath will smell bad even though you use the rinse and floss. And your teeth will look kind of nasty. And your mouth might start to hurt. Better just brush and rinse and floss, it's best for your teeth!

Is a root canal and post necessary to buildup a tooth with most of it missing above the gumline?

also, will a resin composite adhere well to dentin?

Is a root canal and post necessary to buildup a tooth with most of it missing above the gumline?
Yes this is needed for very broken down teeth in order to get support to place the crown. Composites do adhere to the teeth, but remember that they do tend to discolor over the years unlike a well done porcelain or bell glass crown.
Reply:a cap at best
Reply:your root canal is part of your tooth, and yes that leads to your gumline.

Do limes really miss up your enamel on your teeth?

Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years. And any food that is extremely high in acid can contribute to eroding the enamel on the teeth. However, you would have to suck on them for a rather long period of time for this to cause major damage. If you rinse after, you will be okay, but why risk it? Enamel is tough stuff, but constant abuse will cause it to weaken and break. Or worse yet get major decay and end up with root canals or crowns. If you need to chew on a lime piece, do so and then brush and rinse thoroughly. If you can't break the habit, ask your dentist for a fluoride gel that you can put on your teeth each night before bed. DO NOT rinse or drink for at least 30 minutes or more. This will strengthen your teeth and stop any erosion. BUT the other issue is what is it doing to your gums, mucus membrane and your over all oral hygiene? This can cause other problems as well. The best thing is just do not. If you are drinking limeade fine, brush the sugar away and you will fine. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. Marie

Do limes really miss up your enamel on your teeth?
Yah its the citric acids that eat at your teeth.
Reply:yes lemons too. only after prolonged exposure
Reply:The citris acid
Reply:I wouldn't necessarily say that they mess up your teeth. Anything with a lot of citrus or acid has the potential to remove small amounts of enamel if left on long enough. Just make sure to keep your teeth clean, or even chew on sugarless gum to help absorb the extra juices.
Reply:You betcha they do! So do lemons and soda's. Anything very acidic will wear off layers of enamel. Even brushing too hard can cause wear and tear!
Reply:Only if it's constantly on your teeth because it is a type of acid.

Help me get the gap back in my front teeth!?

When I was younger I used to have a big gap between my two front big teeth but as I got older the gap grew together. Recently it has closed completely, and I loved that gap in my teeth so much!! Is there anyway that I could push my two front teeth apart to get back my gap? I am not sure if I could get dental surgery to re-establish the gap - but it might be possible people get braces to push their teeth together - I could get one to push them away from each other.

Is there any other way I could do it besides dental operations? (it's probably very expensive, and braces are probably cheaper - more people want 'perfect' teeth). Please help me out; I miss my gap so much!!

Help me get the gap back in my front teeth!?
take a thick, tiny rubberband and put it between those 2 teeth
Reply:No, there is no way to make them go back on their own. If you try to go and get braces to 'fix' your problem, the orthodontist may think you are crazy, only because people pay a lot of money to have their gaps closed, because they don't like them. It's worth a shot to talk to an orthodontist about this, but you may be wasting your time and your money.
Reply:uhh...

u cant put it back together
Reply:Let me tell you that there are tons of people that would KILL for straight teeth. I am one of those people. I have to experience pain to get teeth like yours with braces...you do nothing to get those teeth. You should be glad you have perfect teeth, btw, braces arent cheap

Soft moist dry cat food? I need to find something to feed my senior cat with bad teeth.?

My cat is missing one upper and one lower of her front teeth, she is 13 %26amp; having trouble eating and lost weight. I feed her canned food when I am home, but I travel alot and need to find something I can put out for her when I am gone that she can eat as well as the other 2 cats so they don't eat everything and leave her hungry. The only thing I could think of was tender vittles but they no longer make that. Does anyone know of a soft moist dry food for cats that I could leave out for 2 days while I'm gone so she can eat? I'm desperate, I don't want to have to kennel her everytime I leave, I'm afraid she would just die from heart break. Thanks

Soft moist dry cat food? I need to find something to feed my senior cat with bad teeth.?
I have a really good solution for you.

http://www.skymall.com/shopping/detail.h...

Click this. It might be expensive, but it does seem to solve your problem! Hope it helps!

Also soften hard food with CATMILK!! (not regular milk..they sell catmilk at petstores, and even HEB )
Reply:You might try soaking her dry food in a little water, or maybe you could get creative and use beef or chicken broth instead (tuna water, maybe?) That will soften the food a lot once it absorbs. It won't look pretty and I don't know how the taste would be for the cat, but it would be a manageable consistency.
Reply:Well maybe if you travel so much you should either have someone watch your cats or maybe you should find them a new home. If she is 13 and not eating as much and losing weight she also needs to go to the vet she could be VERY sick! There are many diseases that cats can get that cause loss of appetite and weight loss. It is a BAD idea to put her in a kennel for days while you are gone!!! My suggestion would be to take her to the vet right away and maybe find them a new owner or have someone take care of them. The other cats may also have to go to the vet because some of the diseases are contagious to other cats.
Reply:try 9lives can food
Reply:as much as I hate to say this (cause I'm not a fan of dry food) you can feed a cat with bad teeth dry food. For the most part cats don't chew dry food anyway.

Or you could board her (which you said you don't want to do). Or find a friend or a kid in the neighborhood to stop by once a day to put food down.. not a bad idea anyway, cats can get in a lot of trouble in two days time..
Reply:I can't think of any solution for you. Wetting dry food won't work because it'll spoil - there's no way it would be safe left out for two days.

I have to agree with Brittney - if she's developed these special needs, someone is going to have to look in on her. You can check into catteries, I think they're called - places to board your cat, or you can look for professional pet sitters, ones who will come to your home to feed and otherwise care for your pets, or perhaps just someone you know and trust with whom you could leave a key.
Reply:Yes. If you could just go to petco or petsmart they sell this brand, science diet, which comes ready for kittens, adults and senior adult cats. These people know that senior cats have trouble eating because their teeth are in bad shape so they make the foods that are right for cats like yours, soft, delicious, nutritious and healthy. What I'd do if I were you is I would get two bowls just for her, for food only, and two for water. Hmm..too bad your other cats can eat it. But if you could just find a place for her without having to lock her up that would be great. Having two bowls of food is ideal. She may last up to two days without eating it and the food is still fresh. Try it and see if you find the food good for her. See if she likes it. Poor baby. If this doesn't work you're going to have to leave somebody in the house to care for her. She is too old dear. Sometimes cat milk is better but then I wouldn't know if it gets bad after some time. You can ask at the pet store. I'm sure they can help you with that.
Reply:Cats don't chew their food with their front teeth so her weight loss maybe for other reasons. I urge you to take her to the vet.

Instead of boarding her, while you're traveling, maybe you can consider looking for a bonded cat service. These are agencies that are licensed and insured to go into your own house for an hour to take care of the food, water, litter and play time. Look it up in your area. This service is way better than the kennel because your cats will be able to relax in the comfort on their own home.

Get well soon~~
Reply:Oh stop the nonsense. You are going to have to put forth some effort now, not just throw out food. You need to get a reliable pet sitter who can come into your home, or at the very least a RELIABLE friend who will feed your cats for you, or board them (believe me, they won't 'die.' It's arrogance on your part to think they can't survive without you.) You shouldn't leave them alone very long anyway in case they were to become ill.

So your cat is ONLY missing one upper and one lower tooth? That shouldn't be a big problem; I once had an 18-year old cat that had several teeth that had to be pulled. Once the surgery was done, she ate like a horse the next day. If your cat is having trouble eating and is losing weight that is not normal! You need to have her teeth checked again by a board-certified dental vet who can REALLY take a look in her mouth, or possibly have her blood tested for kidney failure. She obviously has a problem. But stop the nonsense and ADDRESS THE ISSUE NOW! She can't help herself; she relies on YOU to do the responsible thing and get her to the vet - not go off on travel so you don't have to deal with it or waste time on the computer instead of taking her to the vet!

Do I need 2 dental bridges or just one huge one on my teeth?

I have 2 maryland bridges on my top teeth (the teeth on either side of my two top front are missing). My dentist wants to put one huge bridge across the front which would cap/replace 6 teeth. Another dentist says two 3 teeth bridges are better and will feel more natural. The teeth that the existing bridges are attached to are not in very good shape and have been ground down pretty severely over the years. One is also chipped and another has been filled. The one 6 tooth bridge will be mostly covered under a dental plan and the two 3 teeth bridges will be roughly twice the cost so I will get half covered.

What to do? What seems the best way to go? Implants are way more money and due to the condition of the existing teeth I would need 6 of them anyway.

Do I need 2 dental bridges or just one huge one on my teeth?
There is a 3rd option...

Since you are replacing the small lateral incisors, there is no need to grind back 4 natural teeth to support 2 fake teeth (making a total of 6 units). This is overkill. I would suggest cantilever bridges will be more than enough.

So, use the teeth that the Marylands have been attached to as the supporting teeth (abutments) for 2 separate 2-unit bridges. This is assuming that the damaged supporting teeth for the Marylands has been the canines.

If the central incisors are the teeth in bad shape, then a single 4-unit bridge using the centrals as the supporting teeth will work just as well. But in this case you would join the centrals.

However, if you really do need to crown the 4 adjacent teeth for strength or beauty, then I would do 2x 3-unit bridges separately, not a single 6-unit.
Reply:seperate ones u dont want to look like a horse.
Reply:one will be better as it may not have a gap in between.
Reply:If your existing teeth are not in great shape, then I would opt for the larger bridge.. I have a bridge that has been replaced a few times and it has caused some wear and tear on my "good" teeth.. Unfortunately I dont have enough bone to qualify for an implant so that's not even an option... You may find that your options are narrowed down as you check into it further..
Reply:if ur getting a 6 unit bridge thn ur gonna hafta extract the front two teeth aka central incisors.that would be alright only if they are in a really bad state.if ur central incisors can be saved wit a root canal treatment then i wud suggest u get that done n go for the two 3 unit bridges.one concern in this case would be ur bite.whn u close ur teeth n bite...do the upper front teeth completely cover the lower front teeth?if so,u have a deep bite n the 3 unit bridge night fail coz there'll be too much force on ur top front teeth.i've been trained to think that saving a tooth would any day be better than extraction.if u save the two front teeth now n get two 3 unit bridge, then at some point in the future whn tht bridge fails u can get a 6 unit one.if u get a 6 unit one now...wht'll u do whn tht has served its time?its hard to advise a patient without seeing the clinical condition and the x rays.get back to me if u have any more queries
Reply:It surprises me that one 6 unit bridge costs less than two 3 unit bridges. Customarily, bridges are charged by the unit so they would be the same price. Unless the dentist would have to place an implant to hold one of the 3 unit bridges(that would double the cost). I think you should investigate further. Big honking bridges are much more difficult to take care of and if by some reason it should break you would have to replace the whole thing instead of just the 3 units. I would greatly prefer 2 3 unit bridges in my mouth.

Number of teeth?

I read on some sites that the normal number of teeth at the top and bottom are 16 each, adding to 32. I am getting braces soon and i counted my teeth, I have 14 at the bottom (2 wisdoms didn't grow out yet) and 10[??] at the top. I recently got two premolars on each side removed and also the wisdoms didn't grow out yet. Is that normal? I think I'm missing a premolar on each side of my top set of teeth.

Number of teeth?
32 is the full compliment (3 molars, 2 premolars, 1 canine and 2 incisors in each quadrant). Often people don't have wisdom teeth, or ocasionally are congenitally missing teeth elsewhere in the mouth. It is more likely that some teeth just haven't erupted yet. Interestingly some people get extra teeth as well, called supernumeraries if you are getting braces soon then your orthodontist will have taken an x-ray to see all your teeth (probably on the one film), and would tell you if there is a problem with numbers, or eruption patterns. You could always just ask him/her.

About my teeth?

On my right side of my mouth, the side i chew all of my food, the top set of teeth feel pressure and sensitive. i cant even touch my back molar with my tongue or it feels so tender.

i have recently switched tooth pastes but it cant be that as its only the side i chew one that feels this.

Could it be as i have a missing top molar that pressure is going onto my right side teeth? the discomfort is around my back molar towards my front molar.

Theres no holes in my teeth.

Whats wrong?

About my teeth?
Get it checked by the dentist, you may have caries. There doesnt need to be a hole in the tooth for you to have caries.

There may be a hole which you cannot see, or the caries may be deeper down which can only be spotted on a radiograph.
Reply:ok i had this and it ended up being a root canal.

first try some things... try to relax at night and make sure you teeth arent touching...

you could be clenching at night which could cause pain but usually it wouldnt be just one tooth.

it cant be the toothpaste.

are you wisdom teeth out yet? maybe they are coming out and pushing on that tooth.

but i hate to say it, it sounds like you are going to end up having a root canal..

also.. i have a tooth just like that and they say i have a infection in it, but i got antibiotics and the pain has gone away and its been over 5 months now and he wanted to do a root canal immediately... dont fall for the "you need a root canal" therory..

How much does it cost to put in a tooth if u have one missing??

like a false(new) tooth. or whatever they call it?

How much does it cost to put in a tooth if u have one missing??
Depends on the doctor, but anywhere from about $150 for something minor to around $1000 for an implant.
Reply:A false tooth ( a denture) ,or a bridge is not particulaily expensive.

An implant is expensive, I dont know wher u are but in Ireland an implant is 3,000euro!! in Hungary its about 950euro.
Reply:If you have part of a tooth left so they can cap it, it costs anywhere from $800 - $1100. Make sure you shop around, they do very quite a bit. Good Luck!
Reply:If you're referring to an implant, it can cost several thousand dollars for a single tooth. If it's possible to close the gap with braces or other dental work instead, I'd say that's the way to go in terms of cost. That being said - new technology comes along every day, so check with your dentist and see what he/she recommends.

What do you do when you're short on money and your cats teeth start to rot away?

i recently was able to capture my cat, i gave her a bath, clipped her nails, and cleaned her ears and when i was getting to her teeth i realized one of her fangs was missing, her gum was swollen, and she wasn't eating as well, i am short on cash and believe me i am willing to do anything to get her to a vet ASAP, but i have to wait till the end of the week when the check comes in, or is there any other way to get her to a vet and pay back later? does banfield [[however u spell it, animal hospital in petsmarts]]have any programs to suit my situation?

What do you do when you're short on money and your cats teeth start to rot away?
Banfields does not have a program to suit your situation, but you can check out your local animal shelters. Here in Jacksonville, both our Humane Society and Animal Control provide low cost vet care to the financially disadvantaged.
Reply:Get her to the vet. Many will bill you later if you have been a good client in the past (if you don't pay the bill timely they won't give you the benefit next time so don't goof around and wait when they send the bill). Or use a credit card if you can. But your cat is hurting so don't wait.
Reply:Call around and describe what is wrong with your cat, ask if you can be put on a payment plan or defer payment. Your cat needs to be seen as soon as you can get her there so she doesn't lose wight from not eating.
Reply:If you do not have the money you borrow it, but you do not put off saving an animal which is your responsibility from pain.
Reply:Call your local humane society and ask if they have a list of vets or different groups who will help you work out some sort of payment plan. Many times the ASPCA will do it for free or very little cost.
Reply:Explain to them what you have said here. If necessary, go to a check-cashing place (where you can write a check, they give you cash, and hold your check until the time agreed on) to get money. Your kitty needs to have her mouth checked out and get antibiotics for the infection before it gets worse!!!

If you are established with a vet, he/she will likely set up a payment plan with you. Get your cat to the vet TODAY!!! In the meantime, give your kitty soft food from a can or pouch to eat.

Good luck!!
Reply:get her to a vet Or since your short on cash you can go to a local vet place and buy a kitty toothbrush and special cat toothpaste. my cat had really bad teeth but now their great since I started to use the toothbrush and toothpaste
Reply:OK, she needs treatment. It is a sad thing indeed that health care is so expensive. The teeth will fall off. I go for alternative medicine because I don't have the bucks or rather the bucks I had where taken away to blow missiles at people I don't even know, anyway, whether you go for alternative or regular, the bad condition has to be sorted. I don't know what to tell you. When I really need money it shows up. All the best.
Reply:Yea, she'll need to see the vet, and you need to be sure she eats (soft canned food until the problem is fixed?). We took in a cat that has seen some better days, and he now has NO teeth. They were removed in 3 separate operations. The cost was never too horrible. He had his main fangs removed in the first visit, and one was already gone so they cleaned out the socket so it wouldn't be red and swollen anymore. He's a tough cat... he must have been like that for a year or so. All the cats we have tolerate pain so well. Almost too well. Just wanted you to know that as long as you fix it as soon as you can, it 's not the end of the world for ms. kitty. They're tough. Just keep an eye on her.
Reply:you can call a vet and tell them what is going on they may let you pay on time good luck with your kitty

My 5yr old was born with missing lateral incisor. Treatment?

Oddly enough my 16yr was born with an EXTRA tooth that was surgically removed along with its secodary permanent follower. However, my daughters two front middle teeth sit off to the side because she is missing a lateral incisor, baby and permanent both being absent. There is no gap...just her straight teeth not setting centered in her mouth. Does anyone know what the percentages are for each of these conditions and the treatment options for the latter?

My 5yr old was born with missing lateral incisor. Treatment?
What kind of treatment does her dentist think will be needed when all her secondary teeth come in? Is it mainly a cosmetic issue? Or does it interfere with her bite or somehow threaten her other teeth? If that were the case, maybe (when she has reached adulthood and her bones have stopped growing), extraction and implants could restore a more normal appearance and more natural bite. They don't do implants on children who are still growing so that's not a possibility at age 5. The other thing that comes to mind would be braces, later. This issue definitely needs assessment by a dentist.
Reply:I was born also without the tooth that sits next to the front teeth. It is hereditary, and skipped a generation...my grandma had it and then 2 of her grandchildren had similar. My other lateral incisor came in permenantly as a little peg. My teeth have been cosmetically treated. I'm not sure the % of occurence...

Eye teeth are considered the 'anchor' teeth, so it would be best not to move those teeth with braces...so wherever her eyeteeth are, try to leave them there. A 'spacer' can be put in her mouth, in the form of a retainer or braces that will push her front teeth back to be aligned in the middle front and leave the eye tooth where it is, then... once the space in between is wide enough, a porcelain tooth or dental implanted tooth, or a cosmetic tooth can be placed in where the 'missing' tooth should've been.

If her eyetooth is touching her front teeth, then you can get a white corner put on the edge of that tooth to disguise it as the missing tooth, and square off the smile.

If it is not too odd looking you could just leave it and it will give her a unique look. But yes to start right now is good if she wants the change because the teeth seem to move better in children than in adults.

All I know is that it costs about $1500 - 3000 to have a dental implant done and it's quite the process: drilling a screw into the bone and it has to heal around it, then a tooth is attached to that. Very permenant.) Marilyn bridges (a tooth fixed to the teeth beside them) are about $500-$1000. Cosmetic touchups are around $100-300. A porcelain tooth is about $1000 each. Braces? that is entirely dependent on how long she'd need them and she'd only need the top row done.

As long as her bite matches up - that her jaw is aligned and she looks good when she smiles where she won't feel self-conscious, then you could just leave it....but yes, I think jaw and bite alignment is very important, so make sure you have a registered qualified orthodontist taking care of her mouth...thanks for your question, it was interesting to hear that other people do have that outside of our family! I wish your daughter many happy smiles!
Reply:I had a primary tooth but found out at my first set of dental xrays that I had no secondary tooth. I had three and a half years of braces, a bone graft and an implantation done. The bone graft was required because the bone into which the implant was to be placed was too thin since there had never been an adult root there. The oral-maxillofacial surgeon took a piece of bone from my chin and placed it in the area of the implant during an outpatient surgery (under general anasthesia). After six months of healing the post was inserted and after another six months the tooth was finally attached. During the time when I had no tooth (after braces when I had a retainer) there was a false tooth attached to the retainer that hid the gap.

Other, less permanent but cheaper, solutions include bridges and dentures.

Information on the genetics of missing lateral incisors can be found at: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/dispo...

There is also limited information on supernumary teeth available at the same website.

Anyone know about unusual molar teeth?

I have 3 obvious 'cusps' on my upper back molar teeth. its almost as if one whole corner is missing. any idea what its called and what causes it? I also had fused teeth when i had baby teeth...

Anyone know about unusual molar teeth?
Well maxillary 2nd molars do have 4 cusps, but one is almost nonexistent. Of course there's a chance you could have broken off a cusp, or maybe your molar is atypical and only has 3 cusps. Nevertheless, I wouldn't worry about anything.

Am I Missing Too Much School Unneccessarily?

I have had a hard time early on in the semester. I attend a community college. I was ill for the first time in years a few weeks after the semester started and missed a few classes. Then last week I had my wisdom teeth extracted and the pain has been horrible. I missed last Friday, Monday, and am planning on staying home tomorrow. It's not that I'm making something out of nothing, I am in constant pain! Furthermore, my dad died several months ago and I've been depressed. I can't seem to buckle down and stick with school. The thing is, I'm feeling really guilty about missing these classes. I've sent my professors emails explaining the situation and will show them documentation of the surgery, but I feel really worried. Is it wrong of me to take tomorrow off? If I do go, I'll be in pain all day.

Am I Missing Too Much School Unneccessarily?
I remember when I had my wisdom teeth extracted--ug! Then I went on to work after the weekend. I got dry socket and thought it was horrible--maybe you could get that checked out! Take something for the pain. But I think you probably already know, loosing your father is more of problem for you than you want to admit. Grieving is an awfully painful process, you suck it up and somehow move on. I know about that too. But sometimes when we need help to keep us going and we start loosing the battle and stop doing the things that keep us at home, well, maybe we need to see someone for that pain too. Being a little depressed is okay, but if it starts to interfer with your daily life, then maybe you might want to talk to someone. Missing classes when you might not otherwise have missed, not able to buckle down?, not quite yourself, you seem a little overwhelmed. Simply not wanting to feel the pain anymore is okay too, maybe you could talk to someone? I don't think is't wrong to take the day off, but I would like to know that you are talking to someone about this, professionally? God be with you--you sound very sweet!
Reply:Unless you want to drop out of School.
Reply:Sounds to me like you may want to just call this semester a bust, get your life back on track, and start over again once you are mentally and physically ready. You're not doing yourself any good by paying for classes that you're not attending.

Hope you feel better! Good luck!
Reply:The thing that makes college different from high school is that you're the captain of your own ship. If you don't go, you'll receive consequences. They are natural consequences. If the classes have value to you, you will be missing out on that value. If you need to take some time off from school, do it. Just check with the guidance office about the procedures for re-enrolling.
Reply:No dont worry it's not your fault. Im sure you professors will understand. good luck and sorry about your dad.

PS you might wanna talk to a guidance councilor
Reply:Sounds like you have answered your own question. If you're guilty then you feel like you can and should be going. Besides, don't they give you pain killers? and wouldn't you be in pain sitting at home and watching TV? If you are going to skip school continously like this, there are usually kids on waiting lists that would be all to happy to fill your place.
Reply:The real underlying issue is that you don't WANT to go to school! Were you doing badly? And maybe now you've lost your drive %26amp; motivation? You might want to consider taking an INCOMPLETE or you will end up with failing grades. You are missing important lectures, explanations, and interactions with others in the class. Suck it up - you won't even feel your tooth once you dig into your work.
Reply:If you have understanding professors you should be okay and hopefully they will help catch you up. ( I just joined a German class a month into school and am finally caught up) You really do need to sit down and decide if you want to continue the semester or if issues in your life are too overwhelming. If you are too overwhelmed, you can got to the board of director's at your school and explain that you are depressed. Colleges are very aware and concerned about the issue of depression among college students. If approved you could recieve back the money that you paid for the semester. I wish you luck and happiness :)
Reply:I'd have to say in answer to your question.. yes, I think you are missing too much school. But, perhaps, with good reason. However, college isn't about having bad luck %26amp; getting pity grades. It seems you're making a choice about not going... coming up with many reasons to not go. The advice above about calling this semester a "do-over" is realistic.

Dealing with the deal of a parent is very difficult.. I've lost both of mine. You are entitled to take some down time %26amp; lick your wounds. You might even see if the college offers any free counselling to help you deal with everything you've been going through.

Call your dentist.. and see if your extraction is proceeding as it should. It seems a week later is a bit long to still be in pain. Perhaps dry socket? Check into it.

Life will get better... keep in touch with your professors..and hopefully you will be strong enough next semester. Good luck

I hate my teeth!! They give me a lot of trouble and I just want them all gone.?

I'm 15 and my teeth are really bad. I have quite a few missing already and a lot of bad ones and some are loose. I decided I just want them all yanked out, and my mom agreed that it's probly best since I have so many gone or bad and we don't have insurance for dental. How long will I sound funny talking after I have my teeth pulled? How long will it be before I can eat without it hurting? My mom says it's not so bad with no teeth, but I was wondering about sounding funny talking. I'm already really thin, so I can't afford to lose many pounds. It will probly be next year before I can get new teeth, but I don't care. I'd much rather go toothless like my mom than keep my ugly teeth and have toothaches all the time.

I hate my teeth!! They give me a lot of trouble and I just want them all gone.?
Wow, I am sorry you are having such trouble! I would suggest that you go to a local dental school to see if you can get treatment at reduced cost. If you remove your teeth now you will have a problem with your jawbone shrinking over time which will cause other types of problems. Your face might end up looking sunken. Getting new teeth (dentures) may not work for you as you are still growing and you will need to get replacements (which costs money) over time. If you gain or lose weight the way that they fit will change, and they could give you sores. This really isn't the way to go if you could get treatment somehow, even if you can't do all the treatment at once. Good luck!

PS Not all hockey players have dentures, in fact none of the professional hockey team players I worked with in a former practice had them. Missing teeth yes, mouthguards yes too.
Reply:I'm no dentist but pulling all your teeth out and going toothless doesn't seem like a very good idea. Your only 15...you deserve to have a nice smile! Email the guy above...please don't pull out your teeth!
Reply:I had the same problem at your age. I lived on a farm in indiana and my teeth came in and were bad at the gums. I think it was something in the water. Limestone was only a couple feet below the ground. When I was 16 they removed my uppers and I wore dentures until I was 18. Then I got a job and the first thing was have my rotten lowers removed and Got well made dentures made by a dentist that was an artist. I was scrawny and everyone picked on me until I was 18 and got nice teeth. I gained ten pounds in a few months and I am looked really good. No one screwed with me after that. could have had almost any girl I wanted, but was too timid from being a ugly duckling. The first teeth were really ugly because my parents didn't have much money and hired a bad dentist. I was 5'8" and 150 before, being a farmer, I was hard, but thin. After I was still 5'8' but 165 and had definition. All I am trying to say here iis dentures aren't bad. All hockey players have dentures. Rugby players have them if they are serious. All meth recoverers have them. Some even become models. Yes it hurts and you look kind of creepy for a while, so what. No you won't talk funny except for a few days. I an 71 now and 168# an dstill working and everything works.
Reply:Sure pulling all your teeth sound like a good simple and permanent solution... no flossing no brushing put them in a cup of water before you go to sleep and that's it!

BUT have you looked at the down side. Food will not taste neerly the same, you will need to get the dentures replaced periodically. you will not be able to chew as hard or as well. your jaw bone will continuasly resorb and diminish in size. there will be a point in your life when it's imopssible to make an adequate denture becasue of the extreem bone loss in your jaw. the upper denture will usually fit well the lower one is more of a floater and not as stable. From all the procedures we do as dentists dentures is one of the most complained about because patients miss their real teeth. In extreemly rare cases we do dentures at your age and I have done one case on a 16 year old because of the methamphetamines.

this advice is no substitute for visiting to your dentist.
Reply:I am sorry to hear that but that sounds awful. You should have a long time ago took some calcium pills and had the teeth already starting to get stronger. I know that's not much help now. But if you think that is the best thing to do, then do it.
Reply:Most dentists put your dentures in your mouth as soon as they pull the teeth. This way your gums shape to the dentures and fit better.
Reply:Hello there. I just wanted to tell you that I recently had all 17 of my remaining teeth removed in March. (at 33 years old) I read some of the responses, and not once did anyone ask if maybe you have some reason, at 15 years old, that your teeth are in the condition that are in. Do you have a medical condition that contributed to it, like acid reflux? Do you drink a lot of soda and sugary things before bed? Maybe it's heredity?? My story is this: I lost dental benefits 4 years ago when my husband lost his job. I had a predisposition to soft teeth inherited from my Mother to begin with (who also lost all her teeth at 28) I had more than a few small cavities. Because acid reflux was burning the enamel on my teeth while sleeping, and the soda I would drink all the time during the night, my teeth slowly began to do what yours are, falling out, turning black, the whole thing. About 2 + years ago, they all began to get infected. They hurt a lot, and would cyst up and break. I managed to get a serious infection in both top and bottom jaws that made me feel ill all the time, and extremely tired. My dentist said I had no choice but to remove all 17 of them ( before I got blood poisoning) and have my jaw bone grinded to help the future dentures fit right.

The first 2weeks after removal was the worst. I was eating mush for several weeks. I wont say it didn't hurt, it did,but it hurt a lot less than 17 rotten, falling out, infected teeth. My gums are almost completely healed now and I went last week for my first denture fitting, and I am hopeful they will be ready mid June.

Since last week I have been able to eat "Frito's" and they taste just the same. Dentures WILL NOT alter the taste of foods. No, you cannot eat rock-candy with dentures, but there are many other things you can eat with them, including chewing GUM!!! My Mom did just fine with them and without them, so don't let anyone mislead you. As far as talking funny with no teeth, you will.........I do too. But it really isn't all that bad. It takes a while to get use to, but if you think you will get them all ripped out and never go back to the dentist, you are wrong. You still need to go get your gums checked just like teeth. I have fragments from the extractions that need to be fixed too, so it does involve a lot. Check into your State to see if they have health ins for families of lower income. Thats how I am able to do it. Let us at Yahoo know how you are doing....

Milk teeth?

By what age can I expect my Tzu puppy to have the full set of her milk-teeth? She is 9 weeks now and she is missing most of the front ones (top and bottom), but has her canines and random back ones. If all her teeth do not come in time and she already starts losing them, will her adult teeth come in even in places where milk teeth did not get a chance to grow? By what age can I expect to see full set of adult teeth?

Thanks!

Milk teeth?
you will notice the front two "bucky" teeth will be replaced by adult teeth at approximately 4 1/2 months of age. all adult teeth should be in by 6 months of age. sometimes in smaller breeds the adult teeth will come in and the baby teeth will not fall out "retained teeth." at the time of spaying you can have those baby teeth removed so that they don't cause any trouble (infection, inflammation, and causing trouble with the way the adult teeth are arranged).
Reply:At 14-16 weeks they should have most of their adult teeth.

Also, unless there is an obvious misalignment I would not worry too much about it, they don't really do doggy braces, so they would most likely remove the offending teeth later on if there is any discomfort.

No teeth dreams.?

ok i have to ask, this is the 5TH dream of me having NO teeth, they get knocked out, or theyre just missing.

i had 2 recent dreams, and last night, the bottom 4 fell out, then the top 4, and i was waiting for the back ones to fall out..

i had 2 recent dreams THIS month! what does it MEAN!?

please someone tell me what it could mean? i believe my dreams have meanings! (im native american, i believe in alot of spirts n stuff like that)

No teeth dreams.?
Hey Sophia,

Here are some Native American interpretation of teeth dreams:

Teeth

To dream that you have rotten or decaying teeth, forewarns that your health and/or business is in jeopardy. You may have uttered some false or foul words and those words are coming back to haunt you. To dream that you are brushing your teeth, signifies your level of confidence, struggles and aggressiveness. You need to look out for yourself and your own interest.

Dreams of Teeth Falling Out

If you have a dream that your teeth are falling out, do not take it literally. You do not need to speed dial your dentist. When you dream your teeth are falling out, it can mean that you have been talking too much lately. Maybe you have been gossiping more than usual, maybe you have said the wrong thing to someone, or maybe you have been speaking without thinking first. This dream can tell you that you have been being too blunt with your speech. It may mean you have subconsciously realized that you said something that you wish you had not said. Look back at things you have said to people lately and see if there is really any one thing you said that seems inappropriate or mean. Did you say something improper at work or did you start an argument with your partner? Maybe you said something you regret to your child. Making amends for these statements can help ease your mind and might stop this dream, which can often be reoccurring.

If you cannot think of anything you have said that you regret, there may be another meaning to your dreams. Sometimes when we dream of our teeth falling out, we are actually concerned about our physical appearance. Think of how important your smile is to your looks. If you dream your teeth are falling out, you may actually be upset with some other aspect of your physical appearance and feel that you are unattractive. This is especially true if you dream you are looking into a mirror when you notice your teeth are falling out. As we age, many of us become worried about wrinkles and grey hair, but remember to tell yourself that you are still beautiful – not matter how old you are!

Hope it answers your question,

Take it easy
Reply:its telling you to get ready for the soup line.see?you need no teeth to eat soup
Reply:Teeth

In general, dreams about losing one's teeth are common and suggest the dreamer feels powerless or out of control in a real life situation. Here are some more meanings for dreams about teeth:

To dream of loose teeth is a warning of untrustworthy friends.

If your teeth fell out or you spit them out, you are anxious about money.

To dream of brushing your teeth represents the clearance of obstacles which have been holding you back.

Reply:Losing teeth has many meanings. They have to do with a damage to one's image. They have to do with a loss of power, like when a dog has loss it's teeth. They have to do with in a general sense one is coming undone, or falling apart. The meaning would have to do with the context of the dream. All these meaning do have similarities, in that image and power and being in control are all related to a degree. One has to fight in this world to have a place in it and be able to represent yourself. Teeth play a major role in this. You might need to become more of a spiritual warrior so that this image will stop invading your dreams. One sometimes has to battle, one day at a time, to improve one's position in this world and thus one's image. Meditate/pray, exercise, and eat healthy, so that you will have the spiritual strenght, to better fight for a stronger place in this world.

Reply:I have the same dreams apparently its a sign of insecurity.

I dont know whats going on with my teeth? any dentists? or anyone else that can help? I have pics too.?

Before you say go to the dentist, I am on Tuesday. Im 13 and live in Australia. I have had a plate for 46 days now, Its to push forward my top right eye tooth. Now, when I close my mouth , my teeth FEEL crooked and out of place. Though there not reallly. On the left, my top row and bottom row touch, as the top teeth are over the bottom. And on the right, it doesnt touch. It feels really weird and uncomfortable. Though if I have to, I will get used to it. Why is it like this and what can I do? It it worth telling my dentist?

Here are the pics.

The plate,

I dont know whats going on with my teeth? any dentists? or anyone else that can help? I have pics too.?
What you're wearing is called a "retainer". Your dentist is using it to move your misplaced teeth around in your mouth. Since your other teeth are fairly straight you don't need to wear full braces.

Teeth are always moving slightly in your mouth anyway so your dentist is using this fact to rearrange the teeth that are not where you want them. They are going to feel strange for a while until you get used to the new feel of your teeth. Your "bite" will change, which means that they will not meet in the same way anymore, and your teeth will feel strange until you get used to the new "bite."

If you have any questions about what is going on or why your teeth feel strange, please make a point on asking your dentist about it when you see him next. It's part of his job to explain these things to you.

Cash for teeth?

Is it possible to have a great looking smile with cash? If my teeth were cracked, jagged, cavity filled, many caries and some were missing, would it be possible to replace all my teeth and make it look nice and natural with a large amount of cash? The condition before is a exageration of course, but still, my teeth are pretty bad. If I have small teeth, some caries and don't like my teeth, if i had enough cash, could I just buy new ones? If I am going to live my life the way i want, I have to know there is a possiblity to have my teeth fixed when I get the cash.

Cash for teeth?
yes you can. my boss had it done, from memory it cost him about 10 000 for top and 10 000 for bottom. Believe me they look amazing. But i think there would be cheaper options also
Reply:yes
Reply:Dental Implants are an expensive way to change your smile. They are very costly, but a better alternative than Dentures.

My hamster is missing?

Help me!!! I just went home to find out my hamster was missing. I have one cat I checked her teeth but there wasnt blood. How could I find her she is a dwarf hamster.

My hamster is missing?
Get a bucket with a ramp leading up to it. Put enough bedding in it so when your hamster falls in it is soft but not too much so that she can climb out again. Chances are if you hamster has a gone a couple days without food she is hungry and will smell the food. Put treats on the ramp and she will climb up it and then fall into the bucket. My hamster got out once and was gone for 2 weeks! My parents had given up but I hadn't. She ran up to my dad in the garage one night. She was really skinny but she was still ok. So don't give up yet. I hope you find her and I know what it feels like to got through this!
Reply:Was there anyone home (besides kitty) when your hamster went missing?
Reply:my hamster was missing too, but we found her by setting traps where we would put food on the block of wood.

the wood was like the stairs %26amp; then when she walk up %26amp; upper she would get trap b/c the wood lead to the bucket
Reply:make sure you have checked every room in the house, than make sure that you didn't leave any doors open, such as your cage, front door, garage, etc. than if you cant find your hamster from there make lost pet signs. Im sure you will find him!
Reply:I had this same experience, well I didn't have a cat,

but when my hampster escaped, I put some hampster food on the floor, and when it came out to eat, i placed a cardboard box over it trapping it, and then i lifted up the box and I quickly grabbed her. As far as your cat goes, I would put it outside or in a carrying cage til you catch it.
Reply:check every spot in the house, my cat knocked over my hamsters cage twice when i was gone and we found him under my bed in the corner, he will b somewhere hiding where the cat cant get him.

Missing Enamel - should I worry about it?

I recently went to the dentist and was told I am missing some enamel on one of my front teeth. He said it shouldn't cause me any problems and it probably has been that way forever. Sorry I worry?

Missing Enamel - should I worry about it?
Teeth have many layers of enamel, much like the scales on a fish except more. You can loose some enamel and not have any problems at all. If your dentist said it was nothing to worry about and you didn't even know it, then I wouldn't think twice about it. Lot's of times when patients chip a tooth we smooth the enamel down to even it out, removing some enamel but eliminating the chip. Or when a crown is placed we may need to adjust the opposing tooth a little to prevent the patient breaking a cusp tip on their natural tooth, we take some enamel off doing this. So there are plenty of layers there to work with or lose with out any residual problems being created. Hope I've put you at ease about this, don't worry you're fine.
Reply:Probably not, if your dentist said not to worry about it.
Reply:Well yes kind of because if you have cold things like Ice Cream, it will hurt your teeth in many ways. Also if you have hot drinks/foods this will also cause your teeth to hurt. Do you use mouthwash? If you do, this could be the reason why you din't have any enamel on your teeth. It also depends on how often you brush your teeth. If you brush more than 2 times a day, this is bad. You could use the toothpaste called 'Enamel Care'. This should restore the enamel on your front tooth.

Good Luck!!

One of my front teeth is grey (darker than the rest)?

When I was 9 my neighbor fell on my head and broke half of my front tooth. I couldnt find the missing piece. When i was 16 i went to a dentist and he said the nerve is dead. I had an operation done to remove the nerve and filled up the tooth temporarily untill I get a cap. Now im 17 and i noticed my half of the broken tooth is grey ...Why? and how do I fix it??

One of my front teeth is grey (darker than the rest)?
Have your DDS. do a internal beaching. The dentist makes a small hole behind the tooth, removes some the RCT filling and places a tiny cotton pellet with a bleaching solution into the chamber, they either leave the pellet in place for a week and seal with a temporary filling and repeat procedure until you like the shade the tooth has lightened to., or warm a instrument and scorch the pellet to release the bleaching agent in to the tooth and see the results right away. But that also has to be repeated. This happens because the tooth had a root canal and it is no longer vital, the bleaching will do the trick, or if you want a permanent fix, a veneer or crown.
Reply:go get your teeth whitened
Reply:well depending if the the part of the tooth is grey is real or not....

best bet is just to get your teeth bleached
Reply:It's grey because of the Root Canal you had. When you have a root canal, there are no longer any nerves going into the tooth, therefore no nourishment or vitamins. Right now, the tooth is dead and needs a crown on it ASAP. If you dont get a crown, you run a high chance of breaking the rest.
Reply:Your tooth has become grey because of the dead nerve. In other words, your tooth is dead. The best option I can think of would be to get a veneer, but it would be best to visit your dentist and see what he/she suggests.

Good luck!
Reply:Well,it looks really bad ......GOOOO TO A DENTIST RIGHT NOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Like your doctor said your nerve is dead which basically means your tooth is dead. Since part of the tooth was filled (im going to guess that is the part of which is white) it is 2 tones. You can have the tooth bleached. Though I think you will still notice a difference. I would recommened getting a veneer on the tooth. which is porcelean that is shaped over your tooth and they can shape it took look beautifully and it will look pearly white, but i do warn you that might cost a little penny. But I think it is worth it. But for a home remedy there is really not much you can do. goodluck
Reply:like your doctor said, the nerve is dead. i have a tooth that is relative. they say it is from a sudden impact or trama that causes it. i don't know any remedies. i think they can bleach it

Whitening at the dentist , is it safe? i have sensitive teeth already.?

unfortunately for me my mother passed on the habit of grinding my teeth at night. so the enamel is missing on the tops of the front four bottom teeth. i really need to know if this is going to weaken my teeth further. i used the crest whitening for a little while but they hurt my teeth. how much does the denist whitening cost does insurance cover anything and is is safe for me as well?

Whitening at the dentist , is it safe? i have sensitive teeth already.?
I don't know any insurance that covers whitening because it is considered cosmetic. If your teeth are sensitive then you should start using a toothpaste for sensitive teeth. I always have my patients use it for 2 weeks before they start whitening and then continue to use it while you are whitening. I grind my teeth as well and I bleached my teeth but I could not keep it on as long as suggested because of sensitivity so it took me a little longer to get them as white as they could be but it helped out. It just might take you a little longer like it did with me.
Reply:if your teeth already hurt with gentle whitening in toothpastes, then don't do any professional whitening! In the whitening process, a layer of the outside enamel of the tooth is removed showing the newer whiter enamel underneath. it really does make your teeth weaker and more sensitive.

I had one sensitive tooth, and my dentist recommended disncontiniung whitening toothpastes altogether and he gave me some fluoride to use on the tooth.
