I have a serious decay to one teeth . Dentist recommends rooth canal?

But I am missing the two molars near this tooth and I was thinking why should I treat this teeth and pay $800 for root canal, instead to just pull it out since is cheaper and since I am going to do either an implant or a denture for the next neighbor teeth. Am I right or the dentist? I know many dentists are just looking to take more money instead of the patient's interest. That's why I am asking you r opinion.Thanks.

I have a serious decay to one teeth . Dentist recommends rooth canal?
Hi:

It depends on when you are planning to invest in your dental implants and the condition of the tooth that the dentist is reccomending to treat with a root canal -- as to whether or not you should move forward. Sorry to say-- you need to do more digging/research in another professional opion-- preferrably the doctor that will be working with you to place the implants-- as he/she can help you with the bigger picture and should be knowlegable with your delima and solutions for it.

If you are not planning to invest in the dental implants immediatley and the tooth that is needing the root canal treatment is truly salvageable---you can truly help your situation by moving forward with the root canal vs. simply extracting it. You see having teeth inside of the bone allows the bone to stay in place. Once you extract the teeth the bone begins to dissolve. Usually at a slow rate BUT if you are a smoker, in poor health, diabetic, or have other auto-immune problems, the bone can dissolve rather quickly.

This means you would have to possibly invest in bone grafting in addition to the dental implant and bone grafting is not in-expensive and can start at approx. $10,000.00 (at least that is what it starts at in our area--Bay Area, Northern California).

I can respect your concerns of spending more money in an area of your mouth you believe will need dental implants---it is a good argument-- and certainly worth you spending the time and money with the implant doctor. Share with him the problem you are facing. The complete treatment plan and options should be presented to you by the implant doctor---

Working with the end in mind-- seeing the Periodontist, Oral Surgeon or General Dentist that is trained in providing you with the dental implant treatment plan can help you further in understanding whether or not the tooth is salvageable with a root canal, and if this investment is in the best interest in the grander implant picture or if it should just simply be extracted.

Act swiftly if you can-- as you have infection in your tooth and this can cause you to have flu like symptoms, feel run down and actually even cause you to wake up in the middle of the night with throbbing pain--- if the infection gets bad enough.

Infection in the nerve of a tooth travels throughout your blood stream-- and can affect your heart. Bacteria in your heart can trigger heart problems and a heart attach-- if heart disease runs in your family--- this is not good and you could be in danger.

Not trying to scare you-- just stating facts that were published in Spring, 2001 and I am sorry that I don't have the article handy-- but it was provided by the American Heart Association.

To wrap things up here--- see the doc of your choice for the dental implants--- ask for his direction and treatment of this diseased tooth or extract the diseased tooth--

Get well soon-- Most Sincerely, Tina

P.S. I did include a link that does support periodontal disease and heart disease--- basically stating that disease in the mouth soft and hard tissue can increase the chances of having a heart attach--or damaging your heart. Stay healthy--clear up the infection either through having a root canal or do the extraction--once you've visited with your implant doc.
Reply:Can you tell me if this tooth has space between it and the one in front of it?
Reply:It is your tooth, you can do what you want to. The dentist of course would like some of your $$ and he is giving his professional opinion, but in the end it is your decision, he cannot force you to have the root canal.

I went against a dentists advice, and am still going to him and he always remarks about my decision...but so be it...my mouth, my tooth, my life...I did what I wanted.
Reply:An implant is more expensive, so get the root canal, and do implants for the 2 missing molars.
Reply:RODICA,

YOU ARE THE BOSS OF YOUR OWN MOUTH. AS DENTISTS WE CAN ONLY RECOMMEND A ROOT CANAL IF YOU WANT TO SAME THE TOOTH. DON'T FORGET THAT A CROWN WILL BE NEEDED FO THIS TOOTH AFTER THE ROOT CANAL.

EXTRACTION IS ALWAYS AN OPTION. YOU CAN PUT DOWN ALL THE $ YOU SAVED TOWARD A NEW PARTIAL DENTURE.
Reply:To be honest, I hate root canals, I've had good ones and bad ones and unless it was a front tooth I would not have another one. I've lost a root canal tooth 2 times, the canal didn't take and it cost so much money it wasn't funny. I would pull it, no pain there when the tooth is gone. See you hate to lose a tooth and the dentists hate to see you lose one plus they want to make money on it. I know I will get a partial one day on that one side where I lost 2 teeth but for now oh well, I'll live lol. The thing with partials is they are not the same, they don't grind food well, they chomp it and you don't "feel" yourself chewing it.
Reply:it is better to save the tooth and maybe you can use it as an anchor for a bridge to replace the missing teeth near it! implants average about $4,000.00 per tooth start to finish so thats something to consider also:)

Do women care about the condition of a guys teeth?

A friend of mine thinks he's a real ladies man, but his teeth are rotten, black, and missing.

Do women care about the condition of a guys teeth?
GROSS THAT IS DISGUSTING!!!!!!!! I definetly care about the condition of a guys teeth. I wouldn't want to be kissing a mouth with those kinds of teeth in it!!! GROSS
Reply:Yes
Reply:eww..that is gross... I find that the smile is the first thing that most women are attracted to...if it is black..MAJOR turnoff!!!!
Reply:yes dental health is very important to me No women want to kiss a man with rotten azz teeth. YUCK!!!!!
Reply:a good grill is important.
Reply:yep we care heaps! for me, a guy can have nothing special looks, but if he's smile is nice then ill be happy
Reply:Ewww!! How do you kiss such a mouth?
Reply:Yeah, rotten, black, and missing teeth are going to be a turnoff to most women. A nice smile is groovy and that includes healthy, white teeth.
Reply:yes women do care
Reply:Often times women do care about a guys teeth because they want a clean cut guy.. that takes care of themselves. like the song goes. SCRUB IS A GUY, WHO THINKS HES FINE BUT CANT GET WITH ME. he may be a real ladies man with his charm. but do you ever see any of those girls actually dating him.
Reply:Just because you think youre a lady's man, doesnt make you a lady's man. And if his teeth are rotten, black and missing, he probably isnt getting any ladies.
Reply:ha ha ha..thats funny as hell man....yes i care about a mans teeth..i try my best to take care of my teeth which is important to me..so i would want my guy to do the same..but i once dated my high school sweet heart..man his teeth was jacked up..over bites on top of over bites plus his breath was stanking..lord..
Reply:Yes, the conditions of a guys teeth are important. No one wants to kiss someone whos teeth are rotting out of their mouth, its gross. Your friend may THINK hes a ladies man, but I dont know of too many women who would go for a man with rotten, black teeth; no matter how charming they were.
Reply:A man's smile is the first thing I notice.

Yikes! Sounds like your buddy is dellusional.
Reply:I care about the condition of a guys teeth. I don't care if they have crooked teeth or even gaps, but when they are black and rotten he should definitly go have that looked at. There is nothing sexy about having a good looking guy smile at you and his teeth is rotting.
Reply:I think it does not important for a woman because a woman stuk in a pation and feeling
Reply:Well for me, that would look kind of bad. Makes him look like he doesnt have good hygene, defently if he doesnt get his teeth taken care of, It'll give me the impression that he doesnt care about taking care of himself. and if he cant take of himself how can i expect him to take care of a girlfriend. at least thats my opinion.

Hamster loosing teeth?HELP MAY BE AN EMERGENCY!!!?

my hamster wu tang was chewing on his cage bars and when I went to put a peice of cabbage (like I always do to to stop him) when he started making these awfull painful loud squirl noises and with his teeth still clamped down on the bars with his body thrashing wildly! when he finaly stopped, I had taken him out imidiately. He has two little cuts on his muzzle and is missing one of his two bottom teeth! I put some warm salt water on his tooth space and cleaned out his cuts. He seems to be doing fine now. I put down some new bedding and new water and soft warm wet oats. the poor thing, he is so scared and so am I. Please, Help! did I do anything wrong or forget anything? and baised on my other articals, I am not a bad pet owner, I use yahoo as a help line. please help me!

Hamster loosing teeth?HELP MAY BE AN EMERGENCY!!!?
You are far from a bad pet owner, you did everything absoulutly right, especially cleaning the area where the tooth fell out. So any smart answers from anyone, just ignore them.

This is the reason why bar chewing must be detered though. So give him a cereal chew bar, and also some dried out corn and a plain dog biscuit in the cage... Yummy... much nicer than metal bars. Also give him really hard nuts still encased in the shell like hazelnuts, brazilnuts and walnuts ect to chew through.. it will keep him busy for hours and is much healthier for his teeth.. Bar chewing is also linked to brain damage in hamsters, so he has been lucky.

As for the missing teeth? They will be back within a week or two. Hamsters teeth continually grow, and are prone to snapping off. It happened to my hammie while he was innocently drinking from his water bottle! But it grew back within a week. Your hamster got a shock, but will be fine.
Reply:Bless him! Mine was just plain greedy and carried on eating him normal food regardless of his tooth being missing!! Report It

Reply:I'm afraid I can't help you with your question--and I really hope you get a good answer... poor hamster =(--but you should stop feeding him cabbage. It can cause gas buildup and isn't good for hamsters.
Reply:There's a chance his tooth may grow back. Rodents' teeth grow continuously, which is why they need things to chew. It would have been a worse problem if his teeth had grown together. Even if it does not grow back, the place will likely heal and he still has one good tooth. You can also feed hamsters things like pieces of soft cooked vegetable. Mine loves a tiny wedge of fresh banana. (When I say tiny, I mean very tiny, like the size of a pea or less.)
Reply:It sounds like you did a pretty good job of taking care of the immediate concerns. If he still shows signs of pain or starts to bleed again, you may want to take him to a vet to have him checked over.
Reply:Everybody has given you good answers. All I can add is to watch that the tooth opposing the missing tooth does not overgrow because it has nothing to grind against. He may need that upper tooth trimmed until the opposing lower grows back, or indefinitely if the lower never grows back. A vet can show you how and you can do it at home with toenail clippers. Just be careful to clip nothing but tooth.

These bar chewing accidents are not that common, but I've heard of it before. It's nothing you did wrong. Many hamsters live in cages with bars, and chew the bars, without incident, for their entire lives. Your poor little one just had a freak accident. My best guess it he managed to wedge the bar between his teeth, then broke the tooth in the struggle to get free.
Reply:aww poor thing sounds like you are a good hamster parent. I would suggest losing the cage with the metal bars if he has injured himself on it and yes they do love to chew anything they can. Mine liked honey nut cheerios and graham crackers if I was eating them for a snack he would go nuts and take them from me. I made a game out of it he gave kisses to get the graham cracker or would take the cheerio from my teeth. It wasn't an everyday thing but maybe once a week just a little bit. He also like the bird seed chews that go in the bird cages with the honey.

Hope he gets better
Reply:take it to a vet asap it needs medical atention! it probly had a problem like teething thats why it always chewed on the cage bars take it to a vet to get medication for it!
Reply:First off, you did the right thing to clean his wounds, but salt water isn't advised since it can burn and sting the animal, possibly putting it into shock.

I have an old dwarf hamster that once knocked out all his front teeth. Until they grew back, he was unable to eat seeds and had to be spoon fed three times a day. The best food to give him for these feedings is a mixture of green vegetable baby food, orange vegetable baby food, and plain baby food oatmeal. You mix these up evenly in a small bowl and offer it on a spoon (preferrably not a metal spoon, as the metal smell isn't appetizing to them). The baby food mixture will give him all the nutrients he'll miss from his seeds (keep the seed bowl in his cage, so he can try and eat throughout the day). You can add dry Ouaker Oats oatmeal to his seed mixture, as the oats are soft and easy to eat and will provide nutrients and fiber. Keep up the feedings until his teeth are back and he is able to eat seeds only, then wean him off the baby food. The only thing to watch out for is that the tooth may grow back crooked (if at all), and if it over grows, he won't be able to eat and the tooth can impale the roof of his mouth and eventually kill him. A vet needs to trim his teeth if this problem comes up.

Good luck, hopefully his tooth comes back healthy and the right way.

Has anyone had dental implant surgery done on their top front teeth numbers 9/10 with one tooth being removed.

I had dental implant surgery on Wednesday of this week. Teeth 9/10, 9 was missing and 10 was removed. Could you share your pain and discomfort with me. I got very swollent on Wednesday night and Thursday. Now, I have discomfort right under my front tooth. I wore a dental flipper the first night. That's so uncomfortable too. My lip still feels stiff in this area. Is this normal? My periodontist who did the work only works at my dental office on Wednesday's. This Wednesday I get the stitches out. I also feel the discomfort whenever I eat and I've been eating soft foods that don't require chewing. I've been with no front teeth since last June and I'm worried something didn't go right with the implants if this discomfort shouldn't be there. I can't raise the lip much in this area yet. Wondering if all this is part of the pain and discomfort. If anyone can share their thoughts with dental implants and the paint and stiffness that goes with it, I'd appreciate it alot. THANK YOU.

Has anyone had dental implant surgery done on their top front teeth numbers 9/10 with one tooth being removed.
i have had a dental implant on my #8. i also had my wisdom teeth pulled at the same time. it was painful. the pain is expected for every surgury. i think the swelling is normal. it will go down as time goes on. make sure you keep the implant very very very clean because if you dont have it clean the implant will not work properly and you will waste all that money you spent on it. the implant heals fully for about 6 months. see the doc if you have any problems.
Reply:Yes, good advice. I had my very front teeth pulled and implants put in. Your dentist might have given you penicillin and an anti-bacterial mouth wash - they should be used to prevent infection. Otherwise, expect pain, but it will subside. Report It

Reply:I think your discomfort is to be expected. The bone graft alone is quite invasive. Remember your implant surgery required drilling a hole in your BONE and placing a screw (bascially) in there. You will be sore and swollen, stiff and sore. Just remember how wonderful the end result will be. I would assume the flipper is not fitting you well due to the swelling from the surgery. Ice packs and Advil are your friend. I recommend you see the doctor who did your surgery asap just to make sure, if you are worried, it is their job to follow up with you and put your mind at ease. The swelling should be going down not getting worse at this point. You could always call your regular dentist and ask them to look if you dont want to wait until wednesday.

My babys teeth losing enamel?

my son is 16months old.. never drinks juice out of his bottles.. and when he does have juice its unsweetened kind and very weak... but his teeth seem to be losing the enamel off them.. leavin like a discoloured stump.. it first started when he fell and chipped his bottom 2 teeth, i took him 2 dentist and they said they was only small chips and hardly notiveable as the teeth grow.. now i.ve noticed the top 2 teeth have alike a quare piece of enamel missing. he has.t banged his teeth at all today and it was not like that this mornin when i brushed his teeth.. worried mom here. will be makin app at dentists soon as poss.. any1 know what can be causing this 2 happen

My babys teeth losing enamel?
He may have chipped the front teeth without you knowing, at 16 mos children are usually starting to walk and could very well be that he tripped and chipped, or he could be a clencher. If he already chipped his lower incisor, his bite could also be edge to edge (upper and lowers come together on the edges) and that would also make him more suseptible to chipping those front teeth.

Check with your DDS and see if he can give you the real answer, this could be many different things, but regardless get him checked to be on the safe side, Good luck!
Reply:be like britney spears and get his teeth whitened.

oh what a great mother you'll be. :]
Reply:I would think it to be a calcium deficiency...either he doesn't get enough calcium intake or it could be a genetic thing...I actually have to take supplements because my body won't properly absorb calcium...my brother has the same problem.
Reply:the same thing happened to my best friend's son. And he was a STRICTLY breastfed baby. He ended getting his top four teeth capped. I guess it's all in the genes. Her pediatric dentist told her that it was just one of those things that can happen, even with the best of nutrition and hygiene.
Reply:could be to much fluoride.......juices,cokes,sleeping with bottle with drink and falling asleep with drink pooling in his mouth.....
Reply:The problem is quite possibly that after u brush his teeth u are letting him have a bottle when he lies down. Milk, juice and soda all contribute to this problem. However, it's the activity brought on by the enzymes in the babies mouth that cause the damage.

Brush the child's teeth before bed, and only allow water in the bottle. The child's teeth should be brushed again after he wakes up, and after each meal.

When do you get your wisdom teeth?

I want to know because I will be getting braces soon and I don't have my wisdom teeth and since when I was little I had one of my big permanent teeth removed (on the bottom) and I would like to have a good ammount of teeth and not have one missing anymore. So I was wondering when they grew in and if they grow in while I have my braces will they remove them or just connect them to the braces?

When do you get your wisdom teeth?
They are normally out by 18. If your are getting braces do not worry about your wisdom teeth. In most cases they do not affect the orthodontic treatment. Your orthodontics not your dentist will let you know.
Reply:everyone has wisdom teeth, i just had mine removed 2 days ago... but they wernt comming throught yet.

i had to go under anestetic and get them cut out.

its best to get them removed before u get the braces becasue it may cause ur teeth to move or crowd after u have had your braces and then u will have wasted all this money

Need advice! going into high school and problem with teeth?

i got braces, a few weeks ago and braces aren't really a problem for me but, i have two missin teeth.

i have my two front teeth and the teeth next to them but, the teeth next to that are missing. they are called in-cisors. i am goin to get de-roofing done on my gums so they can starting comin in, they will be in by october/november so its not like they are goin to be missin forever.

i don't like to talk anymore cause people have a chance to see the gaps and when i do that, its show that i have low self-esteem and i don't need that in my first year of high school.

my question is:

1. will people make fun of me especailly the seniors and jr.'s?

2. will new people even want to be my friend (like making new friends)?

3. will people understand?

4. will u make fun of of me cause of the teeth thing?

5. what would u do? would u not care and still make new friends cause u kno the problem is goin to be fixed in a few months?

Need advice! going into high school and problem with teeth?
Who cares? If people make fun of you for that, they aren't worth talking to. Everyone's different. Someone asks? Tell them the truth. Or you can have some fun with it.. Tell them they got broken in an accident or something and you haven't got caps yet.
Reply:eh, what a list! anyhoo:

1) yes there is a probability that they will; unfortunately, not everyone is a mother teresa. but keep in mind that there are more considerate people than rude ones

2) people who are bound to like you for who you are will like you, sans the temporary teeth issue

3) i dare say not everyone will. but i can say that nobodys perfection itself so everyone is bound to have/havehad some tooth problem themselves

4) no, i dont know you too well and its not my place anyway since my precious pearly whites arent exactly spectacular. but if i were a good friend i would tease you. a liiittle bit ^^

5) youve just answered this question by yourself: just fill in HELL YEAH for each one. why should this dental thing stop you from enjoying your first year of hs and getting to know others?

ps: if its means anything, im starting hs too. good luck and have fun!
Reply:don't trip over it. be glad you're getting your teeth fixed - in a short time you'll have some pretty teeth that will make you feel confident about yourself. enjoy it and just be yourself. In fact, be the first to point out the braces so your friends know you are cool with it. that will take the pressure off them on what to say and it will diffuse any little creeps who are thinking about saying something.
Reply:I have been right where you are, except I had it worse. I had braces and the gaps, and one time my orthodontist strapped 2 headgears to my face and sent me back to school, so honey I am a survivor! I will go through your questions in order and answer them as well as I can. Keep in mind we are talking about people, so no answer is concrete.

1. will they make fun of you? Some might. However, I think you will be pleasantly surprised when you see some of the other kids in your class. Most freshman feel conspicuous and gawky. Give yourself time. Remember, braces are temporary, one day they will come off, and you will take the world by storm!

2. will new people want to be your friend? Of course, if you show yourself to be friendly. Real friends won't like you for your looks, but because of who you are.

3. will people understand? Understand what? That you have braces, sure.

4.will you make fun of me for the teeth thing? Look, let me let you in on a secret...never ever, ever let them see you sweat. I'm not sure if you are a boy or girl, but if you go to school, and smile a closed-mouth smile, never look anyone in the eye, and walk with your head down, you are a victim waiting to be thrown into your locker. Go ahead and grin, and let those braces gleam! Look people in the eye and laugh and smile and enjoy your high school year. If some jerk makes fun of you, look him/her in the eye and say "This is temporary, what's your excuse," or something like that. The important thing is, hold your head up and be happy. In a few months after your braces come off, no one will remember anyway. This is an opportunity to make real friends. If someone makes fun of you, remember how it feels, and make sure you never make anyone else feel that way. Be strong, and God bless

Help! going into high school and problem with teeth?
alotta kids go into highschool with braces and those spaces are not uncommon. ive known ppl with the same gaps and i had never given it a second thought until you mentioned it and chances are nobody else will
Reply:Depends on what school.. everywheres different. Don't be paranoid though. It's fine. Act like you dont care and others shouldnt either... if they're going to be friends just cause you have perfect teeth.. there not true friends lol.. Good luck =)
Reply:If I were you I wouldnt even care what other people would think.
Reply:dont worry honey nobody will make fun of you.... and if they do just ignore them their just self conscience of themselves and need somebody to take it out on.
Reply:ok i have like the same problem..

i have to get 5 fake permenet teeth in!

because they never developed.

so i have gaps too.

but seriously dont freak about it.

people really arnt that low.

they will understand.

and they seriously will not judge you for your teeth.

just be your self and you will enjoy high school.

im in 10th grade now.

and im getting my braces off in like 8 weeks.

so i just waited.

dont worry

everything will be fine.
Reply:I had braces and the samething with me I was missing the same exact teeth. Actually no one really even paid attention. Before you know it the gaps will fill in. No one will make fun of you. And if you already have friends then they will understand to
Reply:1. if ur going into ur freshman year dun worry about it you won't be seeing any jr.s or seniors

2. if they really want to be your friends they'll understand, ur teeth dont show who you are, you do

3. yes, getting braces is very common nowadays, and if ppl don't that means they aren't ready for high school and they don't have the maturity to handle it

4. of course NOT! i had braces myself, it hurt alot and naturally ur friends will make a joke or two in the beginning but sooner or later everyone gets used to it and its not a big deal, but think about this u get ur teeth fixed now so u can be pretty the rest of ur life.

5. of course you try and make new friends, dont let any part of you make urself feel uncomfortable around new ppl...once again ur teeth don't show who you are, you do
Reply:Everybody has problems with their own self image. Try not to draw undue attention to yourself by going overboard trying to hide those missing teeth, especially since it's just a temporary thing.
Reply:kids will always make fun of others no matter what. Makes them feel somewhat superior. Those looking for a real friend don't care for their looks, smarts, or any other thing. It's all about personality. Don't pay attention to those other dorks that do make fun. Ignore them. Concentrate on being yourself and being a good person and enjoy life. This will pass and you will feel great.
Reply:if it's really noticeable they may make fun of u, but the seniors won't cuz they won't ppay much attention to u, maybe the juniors

me (when i was in high school) in high school i wouldn't care, unless u were a *****, then i would be a ***** back to u n make fun of u, but juss don't care about it too much, cuz when u don't then they won't either, most likely

good luck
Reply:well as an upper class man i can tell ya nearly all seniors and jrs will just ignore ya. As freshman you will not be noticed by upper so dont worry about them. Alot of people got braces so they wont bother over that. Missing teeth people wont really care or make fun of most youll get is how lose them. First year of highschool most people try get alot of friends but wouldnt bother most classes you eventually working with people and normally thell just talk to get time by thats easy way to find friends. If like the person give part in conversation dont just agree to them and get work done semisters go faster when you aint in any trouble
Reply:Well, you might have some problems, a lot of high school kids are punks (I'm 30 and man am I glad those days are over)

I wouldn't stress friends too much. Everyone makes at least few friends, even the biggest nerds. And there are always gonna be a few guys that have a crush on you

Confidence is the issue. If you aren't assertive then you will have more problems. Go ahead and talk and let people see it. If you don't people will notice your shyness and think you're a freak, making you a target.

If you do talk, they will just think you have some messed up teeth, and thats just temporary anyways. Tell them you are getting it fixed if anyone asks.

You'll live.

2. yes they will if u talk to people, you will make more friends if u join a club or join a sport.

3.well u said that you teeth will go back so in time and when they go back people will be like wow i shouldent have made fun of u. something like that

4.i dont care unless ur ....a u know

5.i would call my cousins and tell them kick their 4ss, and yes i would not care.

i had braces b4 people didnt care
Reply:There will be some jerks that will make jokes about them, but you won't want them as friends. Most of the kids won't care and some of them are properly wearing braces too. If the junior and seniors are not wearing braces then they most likely wore them when they were in the freshman year.

Good wishes for a happy Freshman year.
Reply:1. Yes people will make fun of you. But you should just ignore that. Everyone is made fun of at school at some time or another.

2. Some people will want to be your friend. Just because you have missing teeth does not mean that they won't like you. Be yourself and others will want to know you. Yes soem can be cruel when it comes to appearance, but beauty is more than skin deep.

3. Some will understand, some won't. It's a fact of life that we all have to live with.

4. No, I will not make fun of you because of your teeth.

5. I would not let it worry me. I thought that when I went to high school that I would be the shortest. At the age of 12 I was only 1 metre tall. I was worried about that, but when I got there, there were 3 people shorter than I was. You will not be the only one with braces.

Perhaps even make a joke about it - the teeth have been pulled out to stop me from biting people on the neck and sucking their blood. LOL

You'll be fine!!!
Reply:Question #1: Do you want to be friends with any person that would not like another person because of their appearance?

This means any person who DOES make fun of you, is probably someone you wouldn't want to be friends with anyways... even when your smile is up to your standards.

Question #2: Have you noticed that we tend to make fun of those who are vulnerable to our actions?

I find it is better to go with the current, instead of against it. A good reply to a shot at your teeth, is a worse shot at your teeth: "Wow! your teeth look horrible. Yeah my face looks like a train wreck, I cant wait to get this taken care of"

Question #3: Do you really care what they think or say?

At the end of the day no words can substitute actions and the moment any idea is threatened by publicity it is reduced to mediocrity. So you have to take care of business, even if the world stops in its tracks, this is the only way to press on!
Reply:1. there's a chance. but if you really think they will, just keep quiet and just ignore them.

2. yes of cource! people will like you if, you have good attitudes. just be good to them and they will be your friends.

3. people may understand you. just try to make they're heart soft and then they'll understand you soon.

4. no i will not! believe it or not, i have a friend who's like you too! and we are always bonding together.

5. i'll be your friend who will always care for you! if you don't have friends in school just add me into your contacts... pls...
Reply:My friend has same problem everybody was making fun of him but when he told the true about what happen to his teeths everybody understand him after that nobody was making fun of him.

So when someone make fun of you just tell them what happen they will understand.
Reply:A lot of people have already answered, but I wanted to reassure you as well. I had a space between my front teeth, and I was very conscious of it. I hated to smile even because I thought the gap made me look ugly. Not a single person made fun of me for it, and looking back, it was not a very big deal. I eventually got braces to fix it, but I had my senior pictures taken before the braces. I looked beautiful and was proud of my smile.

I had some very pretty friends who had dental problems. One girl who was very popular had extra teeth coming in on one side of her mouth. Her braces were to help fix the problems. She was still cute and no one made fun of her dental problems.

Okay, to answer your questions.

1. Juniors and Seniors will find plenty of things to make fun of for a freshman. They likely won't even notice your teeth. Juniors, at the end of the year, once the seniors have graduated, will be mean, so it's best not to worry about what they say. Seniors for the most part, won't care about the freshman. And honestly, it's not likely that you'll interact much with the juniors. Best to ignore them, but I truly believe no one will comment about your teeth.

2. Sure they will, people aren't perfect. Many other freshman are worried, gee will they make fun of this, or how they hate some part of their body. Most people have at least something that they want to change, it might be a nose, or a chin, or big ears. I'm sure there's a girl out there who's going to be a freshman who's worried about being called dumbo ears or something. Everyone has something that do not like about themselves, so we all understand this, and of course you'll make new friends! Your friends will understand!

3. Sometimes, sometimes not. Forget about them. Just think about how gorgeous you will be when everything is done!

4. We all have our insecurities, so of course not! :)

5. I would go out, enjoy yourself, make new friends. It will be fixed, so there's no reason to worry. OTher freshman will be as worried as you and you will all find comfort in feeling the same way.

Go out, have fun, beauty isn't only skin deep, and many people know this. I'll let you in on a little hollywood secret. Want to look beautiful? Well it's all in the way you carry yourself. Carry yourself with confidence, believe you are gorgeous, and people will see the beautiful and gorgeous part of you. ;)

One of my front teeth is grey (darker than the rest)?

One of my front teeth is grey (darker than the rest)?

When I was 9 my neighbor fell on my head and broke half of my front tooth. I couldnt find the missing piece. When i was 16 i went to a dentist and he said the nerve is dead. I had an operation done to remove the nerve and filled up the tooth temporarily untill I get a cap. Now im 17 and i noticed my half of the broken tooth is grey ...Why? and how do I fix it?? Do i whiten it or what

One of my front teeth is grey (darker than the rest)?
This happens when you have a "dead" tooth. Since you've had a root canal, ask your dentist if you can have internal bleaching done to help restore it to a whiter color. You'll not want to get a crown on this tooth until you are at least in your early 20s. Until then your teeth will erupt further down and putting a crown on it now will only result in you needing another one in a few years. Hope this answers your questions.
Reply:also ask your dentist if you are able to get a cap now so you dont take a risk of breaking it..some patients in my office are able to get crowns, the tooth is no longer alive so it changes to that color as the last person has said..also ask if you can have a bonding done(tooth colored filling) to mask it in case you cant have it dont for another year..

Will my orthodontist shape my front teeth? Please advise!?

When my teeth were crooked, my front teeth, on the top and bottom I guess, rubbed together at the bottom and top edges. So, the bottom of my front upper left tooth has a small corner missing from it, and some of my bottom teeth don't have perfectly stragith edges either. I can only notice it now that my teeth are straight and my crossbite isn't covering it up. I get my braces off soon. Will my orthodontist, like, shave the edges so that they my teeth are perfect? Or, is this something that I would have to get done at my regular dentist? Should I get bonding done? Please advise!

Will my orthodontist shape my front teeth? Please advise!?
yes mine did that to me. it doesnt hurt. it tickled to me and felt really weird after words, but if he dosnt then you can ask
Reply:i'm glad everything went well Report It

Reply:I don't think the orthodontist will. When I got my braces removed my orthodontist didn't do anything extra to my teeth. I am fortunate enough to have teeth that are pretty much all the same length and not chipped. I am sure it is something that would have to be paid for separate and that you would need to discuss with your regular dentist.
Reply:Normally that's something your regular dentist would do, not the orthodontist... How badly chipped are they? If the edges are very uneven and/or chipped, the dentist might not be able to fix them by just shaving off the edges without taking off alot of tooth structure, in that case they will probably want to do bonding.

I would talk to your regular dentist about all that, the orthodontist definitely won't do bonding as I'm sure you know so your regular dentist can go over your options with you and tell you what will look the best.

If you do get bonding though, if you want to whiten your teeth at any point do it before the bonding because bonding doesn't whiten
Reply:I think this is something your regular dentist will have to take care of...unless your regular dentist is your orthodontist! Then you can get both done by the same person. In my case, I had seperate doctors for both so I'd have to have the dental stuff done seperately.
Reply:orthodontists do not shape teeth. make an appointment with your dentist to have him take a look. he may or may not recommend bonding. hint: if you want to whiten your teeth, ask your dentist how long you should wait to whiten your teeth, then whiten them before you get bonding if that is what he recommends. bonding will not whiten.

Anyone had their teeth extracted for braces?are your teeth normal after getting braces??

i'm getting 4 teeth extracted for braces and my dentist took the first 2 out on monday.he said my gaps will close up and i will have normal beautiful straight teeth after i have my braces taken out!Is this true?????can u still eat anything and everything?do your teeth look weird without them missing?will they ever be normal again????

Anyone had their teeth extracted for braces?are your teeth normal after getting braces??
Well i got one tooth extracted. I'm getting braces in two weeks but, I'm not worried because if the dentist did that its because you didn't have space in your mouth and he is going to move your teethes on a way that one of your teethes will replace the one that he took off. Don't worry he knows what he is doing. You are going to look great! :)

Good luck!
Reply:orthodontists know their stuff and ur teeth wil be normal :)
Reply:I was going to have my teeth extracted, but i've decided to use springs, because my parents were insisting hey were too nice to be taken out.

I asked the orthodontist the same thing, and he said that in 1 week or so, they'll heal because the teeth will move in those places, right? (that's why the extraction took place0 so you'll be fine.
Reply:yes most definatly i had braces for 4 whole years so you can imagin how bad they were and now i get people come up to me and tell me i have a nice smile!! so yes honestly truely its worth it
Reply:I had two teeth extracted before braces, but I had to have false ones in their places. Most people can't tell I have fake teeth, or that I've ever had any pulled. Braces do amazing things.
Reply:I had teethe extracted before I got braces also. My jaw and mouth are just too small for all the teeth to fit without crowding, so they took 2 out and I wore braces for 3 years and my teeth look perfectly normal. My braces were removed 13 years ago and my teeth would be completely straight except that I could not wear the retainers afterwards because they just could not fit comfortably in my mouth, no matter how small they made it.
Reply:I think you'll be just fine. I went through oral surgeory to have 3 of my wisdom teeth extracted and another tooth pulled before I had my braces put on. I'm about to have my braces taken off, and my teeth are looking great. Just trust your dentist. He wasn't trained for years in this field for nothing!
Reply:its so true i know how ur feeling right now and it may be painful but it's so worth it
Reply:Save all your teeth. The braces will close up the gaps but now you're missing YOUR perfectly good teeth.

Ortho's CAN work around them, so insist on keeping them!
Reply:The removal does help the teeth to have more space to move. I had two removed and after 4 years i have perfect teeth. Dont worry, the ortho knows what he is doing

How do you get a 20mth. old to let you brush their teeth.?

Every time I try to brush my son teeth he screams and will not open his mouth. So I will have to hold him down then his gums will bleed sometimes so I worry that I am brushing to hard. And my son will take the toothbrush from me and say I will do it. But the problem with that is he misses some of his teeth.

How do you get a 20mth. old to let you brush their teeth.?
my 12 month old son uses an electric toothbrush,i think he likes the vibrations he thinks its funny,
Reply:The way i did it was made it a game as well as got toddler toothpaste. He likes the taste. he asked me to let him brush his teeth now
Reply:I have to hold down my 18 month old...well my husband and I do..it's a two person job. I allow him to "brush" his own teeth in the morning and I do it myself really good at night. It's a battle. Be sure to floss if any of his teeth touch.
Reply:decide which of you is the parent. stop using toothpaste and the reward for you brushing is that he gets to do it when you're done. get him to the dentist. parents need to assist with brushing till the kids are 8 or 9 if you want good dental health.
Reply:just do the best you can

try to make it a family thang

everyone goes in the bathroom and make it fun

some nights you will get all your sons teeth clean and other time you won't

JUST TRY TO DO MAKE IT FUN:)
Reply:The combination of a mirror and an electric toothbrush works best for my 21 month old son. He loves to watch himself brush his teeth. We hung a up at his level so he can stand in the bathroom and brush. We also brush our teeth together in the mornings, he loves seeing me doing the same thing as him. There are about 2 days a week when I do it for him with a little bit of a struggle but the elec toothbrush is really a life saver.
Reply:I had this problem with my granddaughter who is the same age. Although she didn't scream she did refuse to open her mouth.Learning by example is the best way so brushing together is a good idea. Plus praising them and saying what beautiful white teeth they have and show them in the mirror, can sometimes work. But if he wants to clean his own teeth try not to worry too much if he misses some it won't take long for him to catch on how to do it properly. Maybe you know someone who has a child of a similar age and they can brush together and make it fun!

Reply:Take turns letting him brush his teeth and then you brush his teeth. When he does it let him know what a great job he is doing, Then say OK mommy's turn to do it. Ask him if he wants you to brush the top ones or bottom ones first. He may be more willing to cooperate if he thinks he is in charge. I had to struggle with my daughter who is almost three for a while. It did not take long of letting her decide which ones to brush that I no longer needed to pin her down to do it. She also loved to watch me rinse with scope so I got her a tiny bottle of it and put 99% water and just a drop of scope to turn it green and I tell her she can use the big girl rinse if she does a good job of letting me brush. She sees me spit it out and I make sure she does too, even though there is not much actual scope in there I have told her that we can never swalow it, just make sure your little one knows how to spit, would hate for him to get sick because of it. Going to the store and letting him pick his own toothbrush out, or get several and let him choose which one to use are some other options to make him feel more in control.

Good luck!
Reply:By no means am I an expert, but in my opinion, holding down a child and brushing his teeth so that his gums bleed is not healthy! You are making something that could be "fun time" very traumatic and probably painful. I do however believe brushing his teeth is very important and needs to be done every day.

With my girls, I made it into a game. I first let them brush their teeth with just water while watching me brush mine. Then (the next day) I added a small amount of toothpaste and let them try. I then let them help me brush my teeth. (The next day) I told them it was my turn to brush their teeth, after I am done, they get to "finish". They love it and have had no problems letting me brush their teeth. They actually come to me when I forget! We also have a toy that sings in the bathroom to help us know when we have brushed long enough. And remember, if he doesn't brush his teeth once and awhile, he will be OK, but if his gums bleed it could be a sign of gingivitis and needs to be checked out by a dentist.

Hope this helped.
Reply:My daughter has always liked to brush her teeth because the toothpaste tastes good. I let her "brush" them for a couple minutes then I do a once over to make sure it's done. Every time I brush my teeth she says, "my teeth too mommy?" She will be 2 on the 19th. Good Luck!

I have a partial of the four front top teeth and it just broke. Will a bridge work?

I went to the dentist and he temporarily fixed it but said I cannot eat with them in. He said it would cost 150 dollars to bring them back to the way they were. I asked about a bridge and he said that since I am missing all four top front teeth that the gap is probably to big to go that route. I just ned another opinion on this. Implants are out because it is way out of what I can afford to do.

I have a partial of the four front top teeth and it just broke. Will a bridge work?
if you have 4 anterior(front) teeth missing, the only way it would be recommended to get a bridge would be if you had several teeth on both sides prepped for support. without several teeth being prepped you would run the risk of the bridge moving upward and popping it right out. i have been a technician for 15 years and make crowns, bridges etc for a living. and while i have seen bridges like you want, there are also other factors that only your dentist would know. plus, the dentist would make alot of money by you getting a bridge, so the fact that he advised against it tells me there is a good reason.
Reply:i would defently go for the bridge and it realy depends on you pain tollerance because i fell off of my bike a few years ago

and totaly lost my front 3 teeth and i got implants when i got them i could not eat for a week i ate applesause threw a straw
Reply:you should get a crown they make a tooth (i dont know what they make oit out of)

then they put it on top of the broken tooth

i don tknow how much it cost though
Reply:Why not get a new one? See if he will put the repair cost towards the fee for a new one.. since it will only be a temporary fix... Did he make it for you originally and within the last year? If so, the repair should be no charge (at least it would be in our office).

You may want to consult with a prosthodontist to see what options you have with this, since they specialize in prosthetics...

Best of luck to you.

:)
Reply:Basically, you're talking about at least a 6 unit bridge. Most likely they would have to make it 8 units, (2 abutment teeth on either side of the 4 missing) in order to support 4 missing teeth. That's just too large of a span for a bridge and will do nothing but compromise the abutment teeth. Either way, the cost is prohibitive. Acrylic partials are "party teeth." Meaning, they are just for show and not something you can have in your mouth when eating. The reason for this is they are not reinforced with metal and thus will break very easy. Comparing costs to possible options, you will be best served by a metal partial. It has acrylic, but the palate will be reinforced and therefore, less likely to break. You can eat with this type of partial in. Call around for prices in your area as they will vary. Make sure you go to a high quality restorative dentist or prosthodontist. Remember, you get what you pay for. Going the cheapest route is most likely the result of low quality materials and workmanship. Your old partial has been temporarily fixed. This has bought you some time to do your research.

Did You Hear The Tooth Fairy Went Missing?
Contrary to the assertion of "Helen S" and considering the massive lying initiative presently going on in the democrat primary, I think this is a rather important question and one that should be defended by the Obama supporters. After all, Obama stands, by implication, accused of taking the Tooth Fairy.

What the heck do I do with three broken teeth and 5 cavites?

Hi :) So I have had a cavity that spread to another tooth since it started between teeth since 2005. Now one of my molars is missing the front of the tooth and the other is missing the back. It can be painful, but its manageable...sometimes its extrememe though. All I see is dark in the inside...no blisters or anything like that. On the other side of my mouth, I have a cavity thats been progressing for nearly a year now,and that one also broke...and while it isnt painful like it used to be at times, it looks kind of scary as there is some red within the tooth...not the cavity. And a few weeks ago, my jaw was swelled and I felt kind of a bump by it, but that may have been due to my wisdom tooth coming in behind it. Im not sure. I dont have a dollar to go to the dentist with since Im a student, and you can bet I dont have any insurance. What the heck should I do?

What the heck do I do with three broken teeth and 5 cavites?
The first thing you need to do Brittany is lay of the sugar drinks! Soda pop with sugar is the prime reason I would bet you have so many very decayed teeth. Every time you take a drink or chew on something with sugar in it, the acid clock starts ticking. It takes around 30 mins. for the saliva to neutralize from the acid levels. You can sip on 1 or 2 sugary drinks all day long and that is worse than having 3 or 4 that you drink quickly or with meals. Rinse out with water if you can not brush your teeth after eating anything sugary. Use sugarless drinks, gums, mints. OK, now to your actual question..lol. You will need to check with the local care giving organizations such as Salvation Army. They may be able to direct you to facilities that help uninsured people with severe dental problems such as yours. How old are you? You said a student, but is that high school or college? Check with social services to see if you are eligible for Medicaid. From the description you gave of your teeth, some will need to be extracted. Getting rid of the infection is very important, act as soon as you can. If nothing else go to the Emergency Room and see if antibiotics can be prescribed for you. But remember, the infection will come back.
Reply:I understand the $$ being a problem, but you MUST see a dentist. Those teeth could become abscessed, and the infection could spread through your body, making you very ill. Is there a dental college near you? They usually have clinics where dental work is far less expensive. If nothing else, go to the student health center and ask them for advice.
Reply:I feel for you. By the way why aren't your parents helping with your dental care until you are able to?? They should help you.

I have worked as a dental assistant for over 10 years and have seen lots of what you are describing and know that people have come in with toothaches and feel so bad for the pain they are suffering.

I don't know what area you live in but you need to find out if there are and rural health centers in your area. I live in a small county and we are fortunate for our area that we have these centers. They usually have dental clinics in them and you pay on a sliding fee schedule. There has got to be something there in your area to help you out.

the little lump oor bump was more than likely an abcess developing or has been there for quite awhile waiting to flair up. You need to get an antibiotic to get rid of the infection now mind you this is only going to aleviate the pain for awhile but it will come back unfortunately. Try searching your area for low cost dental care or rural health centers that could at least guide you in the right direction.

It may still be possible to save the teeth that have broken and decayed but you may have to have them extracted and bridge or something else done. I hope this helps you and hope you find some help. By the way why aren't your parents helping with your dental care until you are able to?? They should help you.

Good Luck and Take care!
Reply:I agree you have to go to the dentist NOW!!! If you put it off and the infection does spread, you WILL die! Not to scare you, but your mouth is a direct root to your heart. Barrow the money, do what ever you have to in order to get in to an office.

My son has plaque all over his bottom front teeth.?

My son (3 years old), has disgusting plaque all over his bottom front teeth. I never miss a day that I haven't brushed his teeth thoroughly. I tried to brush them really really well after we took him to the dentist and they removed all of it. However it's back now (2 months later).

The dentist suggested a harder toothbrush, but that didn't really seem to help.

Any ideas on what I can do about this unsightly problem?

My son has plaque all over his bottom front teeth.?
Some people just build up this hard plaque (tartar or calculus) more quickly than others. My daughter is one. She has always gotten calculus buildup very quickly. One thing... does he drink a lot of milk? The calcium can react with his saliva and cause build up more quickly. If he rinses with fluoride or takes fluoride tablets he should not be drinking milk before or right after he uses/ingests the fluoride because it will also cause calculus to form.
Reply:Maybe give him less sugar?
Reply:Make sure that he is not getting sugar, not just for the sake of his teeth, but for many other health reasons as well. Try to rinse his mouth out with clean water after he eats. The plaque must feed on something in order to grow.
Reply:my kids have this issue. get Glide Floss Picks http://www.glidefloss.com/your-glide-mat... and use the back end to scrape the plaque off before brushing every time he brushes. if you start right after a visit to the dentist, you'll be able to keep on top of it much easier.
Reply:brush the bottom part by the gums right where the plaque is for two minutes and make sure he's doing it correctly
Reply:Watch what you're giving him.

Things like banana's, bread ect.. can cause major plaque.

Make sure you're getting a hard tooth brush and that you are brushing hard enough.

Also, floss his teeth ( if not then himself) daily.

Plaque can be caused because of particles between the teeth.

My 9 yr old son's teeth cracked!?

My son 's two front teeth are now halfway missing, he fell in gym while playing tag and we rushed him to the dentist. The dentist put some medicine on it saying they were in shock and we will see him next week for the white fill ins. Has anyone ever had their permanent teeth knocked out or majorly chipped? I don't know how this will effect him in the future, medically and his self-image.

My 9 yr old son's teeth cracked!?
At nine years old, the apex (the end of the root) problably has not formed and closed completely. Depending on how close the break is to pulp chamber (nerve), he may be okay for now. What can happen, is that the nerves in both teeth have been traumatized, but not showing symptoms at this time. It is possible that the nerves may die, leading to abcesses. This could happen in days or years, each individual is different.

The signs you need to look for: teeth getting gray or darker than now or hurting when biting down, swelling at the root tips (under his nose), a fistula (this is like a pimple at the end of the root (same area as where the swelling could be--in the mouth where the top of his gum and lip meet), if he has a fistula-that means the infection is draining thru the "pimple" and therefore; he may not experience swelling or pain-because he is getting relief from the draining.

Because of his age he would need some material placed into the root to get it to close sooner and then a root-canal is done.

I recommend fillings only until he is 18-19 years old, then once his growing is complete then do crowns.
Reply:Don't worry the dentist will fix him up

AS FAR AS THE DENTAL EFFECTS HE MAY NEED ROOT CANALS AND CROWNS. HE CAN TELL OTHERS THAT FOR A TIME HE IS A WORK IN PROGRESS.

GOOD LUCK.

Reply:Im sure the dentist will help him out. Medically he will be fine if his tooth was all that was chipped. The best thing you can do is just keep an eye on it make sure it doesnt change if it does get him to the dentist. There are all kinds of things dentists can do to fix his teeth too. Crowns, bonding, filling. Just keep up on getting them checked every 6 months or more often if they seem to need to be changed or anything.

Initially he was given metal caps. silver in color. After a few years, when the majority of the permanent teeth had come in (and after having to have braces, unrealted to the damaged teeth) the caps were replaced with natureal color ones.

You would have to be told in order to know that the teeth were capped.

How can wisdom tooth be moved forward to replace a missing molar?

How can wisdom tooth be moved forward to replace a missing molar? Does anyone know good websites that has explanations and information about difficulties, pain, and solutions?

How can wisdom tooth be moved forward to replace a missing molar?
Orthodontics are the only way to move a tooth. Usually braces, sometimes with a fixed or removable appliance. You would need to consult your dentist and likely an orthodontist to determine how long it would take and the various factors involved for successful treatment.

Your other options are to have a bridge put in... but if your wisdom tooth and the tooth in front of the missing tooth are both virgin teeth (yeah yeah... I mean no fillings) then you may not want to crown them to create the bridge.

The best option to replace a single missing tooth is an implant. The are factors that will determine if you are a candidate (position, spacing, quantity of bone in the area) so again, you'd need to consult your dentist.

Any of the above three are pricey options so check with your insurance as to what is or isn't covered.

Addendum:

The poster below brought up a very good point. Left without treatment the wisdom tooth will naturally begin to drift forward and will provide you will a sufficient chewing surface. Basically, that's why mother nature gave you wisdom teeth, as a back up plan for lost teeth.

Unfortunately, that drift is also often a tilt. It starts to tilt forward as it moves. So if you sincerely want to replace the tooth you will need to do so before the tooth tilts too far. Too much tilt limits the available options for replacement for clinical/functional reasons.
Reply:I think discovery channel.com is good or monster quest.
Reply:I was told by my dentist that if you get the tooth in front of your wisdom tooth removed, it will move forward itself a bit, but not a great deal. Im in the same situation, i need the tooth in front removed and my wisdom is partially out - weather its only gonna move forward for me beacuse its partially out, im not sure. Check with your dentist or perhaps do some research on dentistry on the web, you may uncover something

Baby teeth?

My 19 month old has his 4 front top teeth, then he has a space for 1 or 2 more teeth which have not yet come in then he has his molars. Is this common for these 2-4 teeth to still be missing? When do they usually come in?

His bottom teeth are all in.

Baby teeth?
You baby's mouth sounds just like my 17 month old, except he is still missing teeth on the bottom too. It's very common. My 4 yr old didn't cut her first tooth until she was 14 months old, so don't worry.
Reply:sounds normal to me.... be sure to brush his teeth each night at bed time.... get the habit started early... it is not necessary to use toothpaste

Has anyone ever seen a 4 year old that only has 5 baby teeth and only 4 adult molars??

My son is almost 4 years old. He did not get any teeth until he was about 2 and half years old. The only baby teeth he does have are 5 molar teeth. We did x-rays today whihc showed that he has no other baby teeth to come and that in fact the teeth he does have do not have adult teeth plus he only had adult teeth for his 4 very back molars. I am missing my lower 4 front teeth which is a genetic thing that is passed along within my dads family but no one has seen anything like what my son has. The dentist was very surprised and is doing research because out of the 28 adult teeth you should have (not including wisedom teeth) he is therefore missing 24....the most this dentist has ever seen is someone missing 9. If anyone has heard of anything like this please let me know and if you knwo any causes as well or any links to which I may go to to research this! Thanks!

My boyfriends teeth are horrible!?

I love my boyfriend very much but his teeth are horrid. About 8 are missing, he has only 1 front tooth, some are cracked, some are blackened, some are twisted, one of his wisdom teeth has a crown missing. He has had several abcesses around different spots of his gums. He gums are black and very weak. He doesnt know where to start to get his teeth fixed. When he last went to the dentist the dentist told him he needed at least $15,000 to fix his whole mouth and my boyfriend doesn't have that kind of money. He asked could i possibly add him on to my dental insurance which i am unsure of and i cant do that till the next benefits enrollment date which is in january. Other than that he has no other alternatives. Any suggestions?

My boyfriends teeth are horrible!?
Get a new boyfriend and save the money!
Reply:Sounds like the best thing for him would be to have them taken out and fitted with dentures
Reply:Is your boyfriend Shane MacGowan??!!
Reply:tell him yo move out of the trailer park and go see a dentist!
Reply:My mom's teeth were pretty bad... not even close to that bad... and she just got them pulled out and got false teeth
Reply:Sounds like dentures are his best bet. Also, you are not going to be able to add your boyfriend to your dental insurance.
Reply:Maybe he could find a cosmetic dentist who will the do the work on credit. I.E., he pays monthly installments.
Reply:I don't know where you live but in the US there are dental clinics that treat patients based on their ability to pay ie a sliding scale, or sometimes free. Sometimes they are associated with a University Medical Center. Check with your local community services office. Some places have a Public Health Information Line that has a Dental Health Referral number. Check your phone book government listings.
Reply:That is gross
Reply:See if there is a dental school in your area. They will usually do work at a very low cost as they use it to train future dentists.

Otherwise, dentures would be the best option.

Good luck
Reply:You'll have to marry to him to put him on your insurance, or if you two have lived together more than seven years, your considered common law and could put him on your insurance.

If I get dental implants, will I still be able to get braces down the road to fix the rest of my teeth?

I'm missing three of my teeth on the left side of my jaw due to bad job of wisdom teeth removal (don't ask). I am almost finished getting my implants done but I want to know if Braces is still an option for me. Anyone think they can help? THANKS!

If I get dental implants, will I still be able to get braces down the road to fix the rest of my teeth?
Generally once the implants have intergrated into the bone it's a bad thing to start moving them around. If your teeth just need a little straightening then the orthodontist will not put bands around your implant teeth but focus on the natural teeth. You should tell your dentist that you are considering braces before your implant supported crowns are made because he/she may want to keep that in mind when determining how the crowns should contact with natural teeth. Hope all goes well...
Reply:I don't see why not
Reply:You'd really need to ask the dr. that's doing your implants.

Good luck!

Happy Holidays!
Reply:The implants will not move, but they would make fantastic anchor teeth for braces! Implants are locked into the bone, unlike natural teeth which have the ability to be moved.

It would really depend upon what you wanted to achieve with braces, so you would have to see an orthodontist to see if he could work around the implants.

Would it turn you off if you found out your gf(or bf) had fake teeth? I mean the kind that come out.?

I'm 14 but I'm missing a lot of teeth and I have to get some more taken out. I either have to get some fake ones or do without like I been doing. Just wondering if it's really a turn off.

Would it turn you off if you found out your gf(or bf) had fake teeth? I mean the kind that come out.?
A person needs to like you for who you are rather then if you have any Dentures or not. I would rather have someone see me without any teeth and only showing gums rather then them seeing rotten cruddy teeth. Some people are able to wear dentures while others out there that doesn't wear dentures doesn't wear them due to the dentures not fitting right(weather and medical reasons usually plays a role in why some doesn't wear them). And usually the ones that have their natural teeth and doesn't have to worry about wearing dentures usually does not understand and will not understand until they end up with a pair of their own and then ends up learning what it is like to have to have dentures. Wheather you get dentures or do without should have no effect on other people unless they have issues that they can't deal with themselves. Just be yourself who you want to be and you will know who is seeing you for who you really are and who only cares about the looks only. I know other people that doesn't wear their dentures and I don't even notice it because I see beyond the gums, I see who they are. Even without dentures, they have a great smile because their personality shines through.
Reply:wait..you cant be serious
Reply:I'd rather have a girl have fake teeth than none, but that'd still be weird and kinda a turn-off
Reply:it shouldnt ,just think of the fore play without the teeth!
Reply:Don't tell anyone about your false teeth. It is nobody's business but your own.
Reply:A lot of people wouldn't even know if your teeth were fake unless you told them. My Mom got false teeth when she was your age and I never even knew hers weren't real until I saw her taking them out one day. I wouldn't worry about it, anyone who judges you for that doesn't deserve to be with you, anways. Good luck. (The only thing I would consider a turn-off is if you removed your false teeth in front of the person.)
Reply:It does freak ppl out to see someone with NO teeth at all..just all gums* I would suggest getting the "fake"ones...and wearing them.
Reply:I think it would be more of a turn off it you were missing teeth
Reply:ummm kinda a turn off except i think that i would rather have fake ones than a whole bunch of missing ones
Reply:Get the dental work done that you need, get the"replacement" teeth that you need, (do not go without if you do not have to) and move on with your life. Good for you for taking care of your dental needs. It would only be a "turnoff" to people that do not care about you, anyway. Good luck.
Reply:I had all my teeth out when I was your age because of a hereditary enamel defect. I went without any teeth for quite a while, but I eventually did get some new teeth, and they were the kind that come out(sometimes when you don't want them to). If I was you I'd just get all the rest of your teeth pulled even if you have to go without any for a while. If a guy really likes you for you, he won't care if you don't have a tooth in your head at 14 years old.
Reply:No not really. It would turn me off if he didn't have any. Like just gaps or holes where teethe are supposed to be.
Reply:Ok

Would you date a girl who was missing a visable tooth?

No. I date boys.

Would you date a girl who was missing a visable tooth?
a lot would depend on how much you like the rest of her.

i mean the bits that are not missing
Reply:Probably not... Why, are you missing a tooth?
Reply:Unless people out there are shallow.. then of course, they would!
Reply:Only if she has a bag large enough to cover her head.
Reply:I think it is more distracting having rotting teeth then to have a missing tooth/teeth. My sisters are really really bad.

I'm sure you could over look other people's "flaws" and not be shallow over something so petty.

I have been attracted to a guy that had 4 bottom teeth missing.

So answer would be yes... (date a member of the opposite sex, with a visible tooth missing)

What are options if your missing your front tooth that does not cost a fortune?

My first suggestion would be to see if there is a dental school in your area. The dental school would offer all the options a private practitioner would at a reduced fee.

The least expensive method of replacing a missing tooth would be to get a flipper or a partial denture. The next method is a bit more expensive and that would be to get a bridge. That would involve having the teeth on either side of the missing tooth prepared similarly to getting a crown (cap). The most expensive method would be to have a dental implant place and then place a crown on top of that.

Get a grill or some chiclets
Reply:Check out a dental school in your area. If you do not have one available. Contact your local dental society or American Dental Association to see if you can be referred to a dentist that charges sliding scale.

My friend is missing a piece of tooth, but he doesn't want to get it fixed?

It's not that I don't find it pretty, I'm not kind of person.. But I feel really bad for him, I think he doesn't feel to well about it also, It's like a fracture in one of his front teeth. It's pretty noticable, I feel bad for him and wonder why he doesn't get it fixed, why is he doing this to himself, I asked him this one day that he didn't felt bad that it's so noticable , but strong as he is, he just doesn't care :/ Should I make him fix the tooth, I really think he feels bad about it, and when my best friend feels bad; I do also :/. So should I ask him to let it get fixed, or would that make me a pushover? Once again, I don't think it's gross, I just feel bad for him. thanks for answers.

My friend is missing a piece of tooth, but he doesn't want to get it fixed?
ever ask if it had anything to do with finances??

I recently had an accident and had to get my 3 front teeth redone, (porcelain veneers and a root canal had to be done) and my total bill is about 6500$$ VERY expensive!!!

so maybe its not that he doesnt want to get it fixed he just may not be able to afford it right now..
Reply:It's his mouth and his decision. If he's in pain, he should definitely get it taken care of, or if he doesn't like the way it looks. Otherwise just back off and try to not stare at it too much. Lol.
Reply:How would you make him get it fixed? Maybe he doesn't have the $ to get it fixed....

Of coarse it isn't pretty...

If he doesn't mind it...let it go.
Reply:i chipped half mii tooth off and i had it fixed it looks really good now tell him it will look real
Reply:Do you know for sure if it bothers him? Even though you said it doesn't bother you, it obviously does, because you went out of your way to ask about it on the internet. If he has the money to get it fixed, and he cared about it as much as you do, he would probably get it fixed. Its his mouth, let him decide.
Reply:I think he's afraid of the dentist...I mean who isn't??? Whoa!

I have to be gassed and novacained everytime I go there for no matter what procedure! LOL

My cat has broken bottom teeth?

I have a 3 1/2 year old cat, he is a Maine Coon mix, and it seems that he is missing a couple of teeth on the bottom. Not any of the huge ones, but those itty bitty teeth right in the middle on the bottom. I also noticed that one is kind of deformed looking... just really crooked.

I heard that Maine Coons have dental problems, could this be why? What should I do? And how do I know if he's in pain?

My cat has broken bottom teeth?
Hi there...it's most likely due to periodontal problems which are common among certain breeds such as Maine Coons. Infection may still be remaining in the gum tissue and and should be examined by a vet to be treated with necessary medication such as antibiotics. Teeth cleaning may be considered if the other teeth are affected, however without being able to see your kitty only a vet can best determine if this is necessary.

Depending on the severity of possible infection it is best to arrange an appointment soon. Infection can lead to other health problems which goes without saying...take him to a vet as soon as you have made an appointment.

An alternative diet may be suggested to help your cat maintain his nutritional needs without further injuring him as well.

Reply:Aww poor little guy. Best to take him to the vet. If he is in pain, they can give him something for it. Also they might be able to do something for the teeth that are missing or broken.
Reply:Take him to the vet if he gets an infection and it is left untreated he will probably die a horrible and painful death.
Reply:I can't imagine how those particular teeth would be broken off unless he had been playing tug of war and holding onto something with them.

Teeth are very porous and if a tooth is just broken off, the base and the roots remain in the mouth and jaw and are very prone to infections which can really affect his whole system.

So a vet needs to assess this situation and prescribe what needs to be done.

Do schnauzers loose their puppy teeth and get an adult set?

My four month old dog is missing her two front teeth. Is this normal? Is she just losing her puppy teeth?

Do schnauzers loose their puppy teeth and get an adult set?
lol. don't worry it's normal. in fact she may lose some without you even noticing because sometimes when they play they lose their teeth and the swallow them accidentally. But yes it's normal, just because schnauzers are small breeds does not mean they don't follow the same maturing patterns that other dogs do.

best of luck, enjoy your new sweetie!!!
Reply:all dogs loose their baby teeth and grow an adult set of teeth
Reply:This sounds normal. They'll have their adult set that should come out soon. Best of luck to you.
Reply:Yes.She is probably just losing her baby teeth it is nothing to be worried about
Reply:The proper name for baby teeth is deciduous teeth. I'm not sure about adult teeth, but I would imagine....adult teeth? Yes it is true they will lose their deciduous teeth...they just fall out. Sometimes they don't and you have to have them pulled. Good luck to you!
Reply:yes this is normal in all pups and they are puppy teeth and adult teeth

I think my dog is losing his teeth..?

I have a 4 1/2 month old Yorkie. I just noticed earlier this week, that he is missing between 2-4 teeth at the bottom. He kind of reminds me of a child with snaggle teeth. It doesn't seem to have affected him any. He's still the same spunky little terrier he's always been. Is this normal for them to lose so many teeth at once?

I think my dog is losing his teeth..?
Puppies are born with baby teeth, like humans are except we normally don't swallow ours like they do. He will grow in adult teeth real soon but most of the time you won't know that they lost the baby teeth and the adult one grew in...adult teeth pushes the baby teeth out. On a puppy shot trip to your vet, he will look in his mouth and you might be surprised that when he is a year old if you get told that he has retained baby teeth that needs pulling to prevent future dental problems. Happened with our Maltese. Plus, when he is between 2-3 years old usually, depends on the breed, you will need to get his teeth cleaned to remove tartar which if not treated will cause gum disease and his adult teeth to fall out later. Make sure that he has a rawhide bone to chew on frequently...helps prevent tartar build up on their teeth. I have been told you can "pop" the tartar (green junk) off their teeth yourself but you can also "pop" their teeth out too. You vet will keep you informed on his dental health and what you need to do to keep his teeth healthy. Good luck!
Reply:yes
Reply:it is very normal for them to loose teeth, i had a Yorkie and it did the same thing! actually he swallowed them! but the vet said that this is normal.
Reply:He's losing his baby teeth and his adult teeth are coming in. It's very normal.

Please keep in mind that small breeds tend to have dental problems and many of them require extensive dental care and cleanings regularly.

One of my only has half of her teeth left in spite of the brushings and cleanings my vet has done.
Reply:they could grow back xx
Reply:of course its normal. ur dog will be fine. when i was a kid i lost 5 of my front teeth all within a week.
Reply:he will be fine he is just losing teeth they will grow back as dog teeth not puppy theeth
Reply:He'll be fine. My pup was missing ALL of his front teeth for about a week and a half till the new ones grew in.
Reply:These are usually the first teeth to fall out, (incisors), then morals, and k-9's last. This is the right age and usually stops about 7 months. Keep and eye on them some small breeds have been know to keep baby teeth (desious) and the adult come in and they are over crowed. Your vet can explain the side affects of this, the baby teeth should be pulled is they don't fall out. He will need lots of chew toys, and watch your table legs, chair legs and shoes. One other tip plenty of ice cubes as treats and in the water bowl will help with teething pain and inflammation.
Reply:Yes they start to lose their baby teeth at around 4 months.
Reply:Of course he'll be fine it's tollaly normal. I always look around the floor for them, they swallow some(don't worry) but it's fun to save some!! Kinda like a baby book type thing.
Reply:Perfectly normal, and right on time. My dog lost a bunch at once, too. Looked pretty funny for awhile!
Reply:yes at this age he is loosing his puppy teeth and getting adult teeth.
