When can I open my jaw after having my wisdom teeth out?

I had three impacted wisdom teeth removed 6 days ago. The pain has completely subsided and everything is healing very well. However, I still can't open my jaw to eat. I can sort of brush my teeth but I'm missing alot of teeth in the back and the insides. I've dilligently been putting moist heat on my jaw every night.

How long can I expect this stiffness to last? I would love to eat normal food again!

You should be seeing some improvement by now. The "poor man's" physical therapy for this sort of thing is to just chew some chewing gum for a few days to mobilize your joint and loosen up the muscles.

If it hurts when you do that, though, don't do that. Instead, talk to your surgeon and see what other kinds of home therapy they recommend. (moist heat, stretching exercises.......)

The good news is that all of the above would constitute free dental care that even Tom could agree with.

:-)
Reply:you should be able to open. You may need to call your dentist. You may have an infection/inflammation.
