We found a skull on the beach, round, no eye sockets, and no tooth sockets, missing the lower jaw. Any ideas?

Doesn't exactly sound like a skull with no sockets. I thought maybe an animal but even a dog or cat would have eye sockets.


Could it just be a rock washed in from shore.

It was deffinately a skull. I work a profession where I see bone matter all the time. We also found a vertabrae nearby. Report It

Reply:There was a brain cavity, Definately not human, There were holes where a lower jaw appeared to have fit, and a upper palat, but no tooth holes. We gave it to a child on the beach to take for show and tell, and research, but my curiosity is killing me! Report It

Doesn't basically everything have eye sockets? Unless you only have half of the skull. (So like the back of the head.)

Reply:If you suspect that it maybe a human skull call the police. Did you know that possesion of human remains is against the law? Put it back in the same spot on the beach and call the police right from there.

Reply:Contact your local police or medical examiner and ask them to evaluate a bone that you believe could be human. Be prepared to show them where you found it.
Reply:May be its plastic trash peace that look kind of like skull. Or unusual sea shell, or sea matter that look and feel like skull.
