and then put in a temporary moldish fililng. Is that how dentists are supposed to leave the patients. To be it looks strange to have that piece of tooth missing and with the filling just left like that. I understand why the dentist did it but I thought it was something more than just taking out the cavatity and putting a fake filling in?
How do tooth filing works? The dentist did a filling and I don't see how they can just drill out the teeth ..
If it's just a regular cavity, there's nothing to "take out." A cavity is a hole in the tooth, and the filling goes in that hole to seal it up -- that's why it's calling "filling." I don't know what your dentist did, but it doesn't sound like a routine filling. If it were just a cavity, there shouldn't be any change to the way your tooth looks at all. You must have had a bigger problem.
Reply:A cavity is a tooth with decay in it. So, they drill the decayed part out, meaning there is no longer a cavity in it. They cannot just leave a drilled hole in your tooth though, so they have to fill it. They filled mine with a white filler, so it matched my tooth. Then they shape it so it looks natural on your tooth. My teeth are on the whiter side because I take good care of them, so the filling they used already matched up to my tooth, so it didn't look obvious that I had a filling.
