Is it impossible to keep dental bridges clean?
I want to know if it is impossible to keep your teeth that are caped clean? I need a 3 unit bridge and I'm worried about putting my 2 other good teeth at risk. Am I just asking for trouble down the road if I do not go through with getting an implant for my missing tooth instead of the bridge?
I really do not want to go through the implant proceedures!
Is it impossible to keep dental bridges clean?
An implant and crown is MUCH better than a 3 unit bridge. You clean it just like a regular tooth verses the problem of inserting floss under the false tooth of a fixed bridge and cleaning that area which will trap food debris. Plus, there's no need to traumatize adjacent teeth with crowns. I'd strongly recommend the implant and crown as the cost is about the same as a 3 unit bridge.

Need money for dental. Any Ideas?
I have crooked and two missing teeth. I want to either get some braces and implamts or a couple vaneers. Im in the military, but they dont cover anything like that because its considered cosmetic and they could care less if you have nice looking teeth. I want have nice teeth by next year when I get out of the military. I figured if I had $4,000 or $5,000 dollars I could take care of that. I dont want to take out a loan because I already have one for my truck that I have to pay off. And Im also trying to save up a few grand to have for when I get out and trying to get settled in a job and a place to live, but Im doing alright on that. I have nothing to sell and I dont want to get scamed online doing surveys or anything. Does anybody know how I can make this much money quickly? Maybe some donations? Thanks.
Need money for dental. Any Ideas?
There a little dental shops that all have a personal financing plan* Most vary, but are well reasonable. Not every one in this country has good insurance/ benifits, Which is a damn shame!

Does this answer some of the questions about why there is hurt in the world if there is a god?
I am reminded of a recent trip to the dentist. While the dentist was
cleaning my teeth he said to me,
"I do not believe in God."
Now this dentist knows what I do for a living and how important my
faith is to me, yet for numerous reasons (one main one being his hands
were in my mouth) I uncharacteristically remained silent, allowing him
to explain;
"How can God exist and still allow all the suffering and pain in the
world?"
I remained quiet until he was finished (and of course put his tools
away) and told him that "I do not believe in dentists."
This confused him greatly so I clarified for him that if there are
dentists in the world, how can so many people have broken, infected
and missing teeth?
He answered me "I cannot help anyone who does not come to me to have
their teeth fixed."
That reply is the same for faith. He cannot help people until they
come to Him in repentance and faith, accept Him in their lives and ask
Him for help.
Does this answer some of the questions about why there is hurt in the world if there is a god?

Reply:I like this story. But it is not a question, is it?
Let's not forget, when God made the world and filled it with people, plants and animals, he said that it was good. And by God's standard, good must have been perfect.
So the original world God made would have had no pain or suffering or death at all, at least until people started breaking God's rules.
God didn't create the pain, people did, through direct disobedience to God. God's rules were for our well being and happiness. Just as we have a rule requiring us to drive on the correct side of the dividing line on the highway. If we disobey that rule, people die.
Yet, even today, these same people who try to use that old argument about 'How could God allow pain' disobey rules all the time, doing the very thing that causes the pain they claim to criticize.
God also promised us a new heaven and a new earth, a place with no pain and no sorrow. And these people with their lame argument will miss out on the world they 'say' they want, because they really don't care about any of that, they just want to live their lives with no accountability. They want to break the rules and not feel bad about it.

Will Invisalign work with my advanced case?
I have 3 impacted teeth that will need to be surgically removed (I had one removed years ago). This leaves me with 4 baby teeth that aren't going to last forever. Is it possible to get invisalign after getting dental implants or are those implants secure forever? I want Invisalign, but I don't want to have any missing teeth.
Will Invisalign work with my advanced case?
Unfortunately, Invisilign will not be appropriate after implants. Actually, the baby teeth will need to be removed to have the implants placed so you will have spaces between the time the surgery is done and the crowns are placed on top of the implants, and this usually takes months.
You should have a consultation with an orthodontist that works with your general dentist on a regular basis in order to treatment plan your "case" appropriately. Usually what happens in the consultation with the orthodontist is the taking of an xray to check tooth position and impressions of your teeth. After that the orthodontist will give you a general idea of how much time and how much money they will cost. However, in your case the orthodontist would be factoring in using the braces to hold spaces open for implants. The implants might also involve you seeing an prosthodontist, a dentist who specializes in advanced treatment such as implants. So, in a nutshell you have an advanced case that will probably involve 3 types of dentists who need to communicate well and coordinate you care to get the job done. Good luck

Retainer and bone graph question?
2 days ago i had an operation to ad bone where i am missing teeth, then in 4 months they are going to put in false teeth.
now befor this operation i had a ratainer, if i put in my retainer now it would shuve up in to the new bone and that would hurt a lot.
so my questions are thus
do i still need my retainer?
will my teeth try to move with out the retainer to stop them?
should i have asked the doctor about this befor i left the hospital?
should i call the hospital monday?
Retainer and bone graph question?
By retainer, I am going to assume you possibly mean that you have a removable partial denture. In any case, your old "retainer" will not fit properly because the added bone has changed the shape and thickness of your arch. Considering that you just had a surgery to place the graft material (bone), you will be sore in the surgical site, and placing your "retainer" on the area will naturally cause it to hurt. The discomfort you are experiencing from the surgery should subside in about 7 days. You probably had stitches placed, and the doctor that did the surgery will probably need to remove them and do a wound check, also in approx 7 days.
The fact that you had a bone graft done, I am also going to assume that you will be having implants placed into the graft site in 4 months. The answers to your specific questions will follow:
1. I would keep your "retainer" for now. After the swelling goes down, and the surgical site heals, it might still fit. However, if after you heal and the denture doesn't fit well, don't try to force it into fitting. You could cause damage to your bone graft by putting too much pressure on it.
2. Your teeth should not move in any significant way during the 4 months of healing.
3. I'm not sure about what information your doctor gave you before leaving the hospital, or if you asked him or her any questions. A few things may have happened:
*your doctor may have given you written instructions about what to expect, but you may not have noticed the form.
*if you were sedated for the procedure you may not be able to recall the instructions you were given, but regardless you should have written instructions. I've noticed when I have sedated patients for grafting or implant procedures they have a tendency to stuff everything into a bag and forget about it. Check in anything you may have brought home from the hospital. (As a result of this very problem with paperwork, I now have patients come in for a an appointment before the procedure just to complete all the consent paperwork and answer any questions the patient might have).
3. I'm not sure if you should call the hospital or not. You should look around to see if you have any written instructions. If you can't find anything, my next suggestion would be to call the doctor that did the procedure. As a final resort, if you are having problems you should then call the hospital.

Reply:I wouldn't worry about the retainer this early post-op. wait until you see your doctor (in 5 days or so??) before you put pressure on the graft area.

Do you really need a second molar? Is it worth the money to have it replaced?
I had my lower right 2nd molar extracted last month and am going to have the lower left 2nd molar extracted as well. One of the uppers 2nds needs a crown, the other upper a filling.
The dentist recommended getting an implant to replace the two lower missing teeth, but my insurance will only cover the crown and not the titanium post or ( will cost about 5000-6000 total for both which my insurance will cover at most 1000). My insurance also caps out at 1000 so my normal dental work will fill that anyway so I am really looking at 5000-6000.
I am 32 and going to the dentist from here on out. Better late than never I guess. I have been eating just fine without it am wondering if it is really necessary. I don't have a gap as it is my furthest back tooth.
I am thinking a more cost effective way to handle this is to have have the other lower pulled and let them be for now. no implants. When the time comes, have the uppers extracted. This would leave me with 24 healthy teeth.
Do you really need a second molar? Is it worth the money to have it replaced?
THE WAY YOU HAVE DECIDED TO GO ABOUT IT IS A GOOD IDEA
Reply:If you are missing the two lower second molars on each side, which sounds like that will be the case, eventually the two top 2nd molars will start to grow down since there is nothing to stop them and when that happens (it could take a very long time, it just depends) you will have to get them removed and you'll be in the cost effective situation you described (24 teeth) which most likely will be fine, I doubt you'll have too much of a problem chewing, it may be a little different but you'll live and no one will ever notice. Implants to replace the 2nd molars will prevent the top ones from ever drifting down. But it's really up to you, plus you need to decide if you should get the crown on the top if it's going to eventually be pulled? I would because like I said it could be a long time before it grows enough to extract and you want to keep it as long as possible. Hope this helps, I work in a dental office and know that dental work can be very expensive, you're lucky it's the very back teeth so it's not noticeable but keep up with regular check-up and be very meticulous with your oral hygiene at home so you won't have to worry about losing anymore teeth!

Hope this helps, I work in a dental office and know that dental work can be very expensive, you're lucky it's the very back teeth so it's not noticeable but keep up with regular check-up and be very meticulous with your oral hygiene at home so you won't have to worry about losing anymore teeth!

Can a dental bridge be removed without damaging it and be put back on?
I had a bridge put in to replace a pulled tooth and I informed the dentist that the molar next to the missing tooth was sensitive to heat and cold but he just kind of shrugged it off not to worry and now its got a abcess above. So now if I need a root canal ,can the bridge be removed with out breaking it and would the dentist be reliable for it. I only had it put in about 9 months ago. I also asked him about sealents for my teeth but he just shrugged it off like no. Is that normal?
Can a dental bridge be removed without damaging it and be put back on?
Consult your dentist ASAP.
If the tooth needs a root canal, rest assured that, in most cases, it can be done through the crown. However, you may well be referred to a specialist (and endodontist) since the root canal procedure will be more complicated since the crown affects the orientation of the tooth and it's harder to know where the nerve is. This is exactly the sort of thing that the specialists do-
As for sealants, they work best in newly erupted teeth which have no restorations (fillings) in them already. And since sealants are applied to fissures and groves, they are only placed in molars and premolars. If you are an adult without a history of much decay, there is no indication for them since you've gone this long with no problem. If you are adult with a lot of prior decay, the chance of the sealants "not sticking" as well, thus trapping bacteria between the sealant and tooth (and thus, actually *causing* more decay) is pretty high.
This is why sealants are generally only done on kids, as the new teeth erupt.
Reply:First, you need to get the abscess taken care of with an antibiotic. The bridge depends on what kind of bridge and how it was anchored? A Maryland bridge---the teeth on either side of the extraction has to be shaved down, then capped, with the fake tooth in the middle. I do not think you can get the two caps off without breaking them. That would be the same for any bridge that is connected to caps to secure it. Those caps are not meant to come off.
If you aren't thrilled with this dentist, I would find another one. But get that antibiotic right away!
Reply:A root canal can be done on the tooth without having to take the bridge off. They will have to put a small hole in the top of the crowned tooth to get access to it and then after the root canal is complete, a filling can be placed. The bridge should still last a very long time and shouldn't need to be replaced for years and years.
Reply:You need a new dentist who doesn't "shrug" so much, but answers questions. That's part of what you pay for. Bridges can often be removed, but not always. Another thing to consider is that the shape of the tooth that needs the root canal, which is the anchor tooth for your bridge may shape. The better way to go could very well be to do the root canal without removing the bridge. Sometimes they can be done by drilling through the bridge. I suggest you find a new dentist, one who is really good with root canals and bridgework, to consult. You need to be sure that you're still going to be able to use that bridge. Good luck.
Reply:I agree with Justine and idforyah, who always know what they are talking about when they answer questions in the Dental section.
Sometimes you can take a bridge off without damaging anything, but if it was placed with a modern bonding resin cement, I wouldn't risk it. You can have the root canal done right through the bridge as if it was just a normal tooth.
If you are old enough to have a bridge, you are too old to get much (if any) benefit from sealants.

I am getting braces soon and I don't know what colors to pick. (read more below V)?
I want to do like a spring combo, since it is spring where I live but I don't know. See I've had braces before and I've heard to stay away from white because it turns yellow, yellow becase it can give you the apperance of having yellow teeth, and black becasue it makes you look like your teeth are rotten or you are missing teeth. CAN ANYONE HELP ME?!?! I have tried googleing pictures of braces and I have tried that thing where you pick your colors but nothing seems to work! PLEASE HELP. (PS. IM A GIRL)

they look nice . U can try blue i think they are nice also. Is it possible u can ask your dentist to show sample of colours, if not check with him which is the most popular colour right now. Another suggestion would be using multiple colours in your braces but skipping the above colours which u mention. I have seen people wearing multiple colours it looks interesting.I hope this helps!
Reply:hello,
the best suggestion that I can give you is to look at the folks around you. i am assuming that you are a student, probably in middle or high school... so there should be plenty of peers to look at who have braces. so look at them! you may not know them but just talk to them for a second and see what their's look like.
I had braces and I loved picking out the colors, which was the best part of having the braces while they were on.
A lot of people try to get "white" but I say stay away from white. To me it looks like plague, and I always have to take a second look to see that they have braces on.
Braces are fun. Don't be like some who want to "hide" that they have braces. Every other kid has braces now it seems so don't be ashamed and fall in the trap of getting something that would make your braces less visible.
I'm glad that you want to experiment with the colors! So just go for whatever. How about a pink and blue (I believe that most dentist, at least mine did, allow you to have up to a certain number of colors)? That's a great spring "collection" (hehe).
Reply:If you want less noticable braces get the clear, its on the modules (little bands on the brackets) that stain, and its only if you eat colored food like spaghetti, curries or stuff like 2 minute noodles with chicken flavouring.
If you get the colored braces you get different colors and you can change them yourself
Reply:I think you should choose maybe turqoise or pink. Also, I would like to know about the pick the color thing. email me at bkanzler@optonline.net

I'm really sorry about your situation. I had very little self esteem in the past too. Perhaps my experience will give you some guidance.
First of all, I would highly recommend going to therapy and talking about your issues. A trained professional will be able to help you take some positive steps toward higher self esteem. It worked wonders for me.
Second, I would also recomend finding ways to direct your energy away from pleasing somone else and pleasing your self. Throw yourself into hobbies and activities that you enjoy. It will lift your spirits and make you a more interesting, well rounded individual.
I wish you the best.

How do you cope with having deformities, imperfections disfigurements, injuries, that won't go away ?
im 30 have bpd, which makes life very hard, ive had a terrible life to, but ontop of that i have physical disfigurements, imperfections, including:
torn ankle ligaments in my left ankle, i twist it very easy and go over on it, it makes clicking sounds, bone popping sounds.....it deffinatly needs surgery.
i have a crooked, bent little finger, that droops over, due to an injury months ago.....i was told nothing can be done about that.
i have damaged nerves in my right knuckle, due to an injury years ago, i have shooting pains if i hit something like a punching bag, if i press on it, i get shooting pains in it....i was told nothing could be done there either.
i have 2 missing teeth at the front, bottom row...the bottom 2 front teeth missing...due to an accident years ago....im trying to save up for dental implants.
im bald completley..
im unhappy with my manhood, the head on it is small.
has anyone got physical problems like this they live with that get you down ?
How do you cope with having deformities, imperfections disfigurements, injuries, that won't go away ?
My saying is, if people don't like you for who you are or accept you for who you are, then they ain't worth bothering with are they? So what if you have these imperfections etc etc. You are still you and most probably have a fantastic personality. It's not what is on the outside remember.
You are unique and your own person...
Just think to yourself, "I don't give a monkey's to what other people think about me".
Reply:we all have something and some people have many things. you have to do some work at a deeper level to change your attitudes. i'm not saying your problems are not real or making light of them, but when you have difficulties you must look deeper to find things that make you happy
Reply:Everyone has deformities and imperfections, not all are for you to see. I have a short left arm (almost 2inches) which my brother-in-law did not know about until two days ago. This what I want to say, people don't always see the imperfections until you point them out. I have other flaws but people don't see them until I point them out. The more you point out you flaws the more everyone sees them!!!!! As for the beautiful people some of them have black souls or hidden scars, don't envy them for a few are cursed.

Braces And Orthodontics Surgery?
I'm 35 and want braces. When I went for my consult I was told I had so much going on in my mouth that I might need some type of surgical work done before I put braces on. I have a missing tooth in the upper front of my mouth that have been missing since I was 8yrs old so all my teeth are going all over the place. I ask if insurance would cover the surgical part, if I ended up needing it and she said no. I'm so ready to feel good about myself and I know I can't pay for anything surgical. I don't have money like that. I'm a single mother of three. I don't want to give up because I need to do this for me. Can anyone give me some advice or is there any dentist that can do some pro bono work to help me out, please. I have lived like this for 27yrs and it hurts. Thanks and have a bless day.

Can you go after mechanics for fraud?
We're rebuilding our engine for our 85 Ranger at the mechanics, and we requested them to take a look at our starter, because it's been giving us trouble. The company called today saying that we need a new starter because some of the teeth are missing. The last time we checked, the starter was NOT missing teeth, the only thing wrong was some of the bolts were loose. They are going to charge us double (maybe another 600 dollars) for parts plus labor to get it fixed. If we requested to see the part and it's not damaged, can we go after them for fraud or demand that we don't pay for repairing the starter? Any feedback would be appreciated, THANKS!! :-)
Can you go after mechanics for fraud?
i don't know what state you are in but in California you would contact B.A.R.(Bureau Automotive Repair)fill a complaint form(they will need a copy of your invoice, what was said, what you were quoted,)these people can shut shops down and take their repair license if they are found guilty of fraudulent practices,or contact Better Business Bureau.
Reply:$600 for a starter! Is it like gold plated? With the engine out swapping a starter should take about 10 minutes and cost less then $100.
but...
if it is shot.. then maybe it screwed your flywheel ? THAT would run up the bill.
You need to go look at it and do that now. If they are jacking you off on the starter, think of what they are doing to you with the engine. But if they are handling the matter right you will have more confidence in them.
.
Reply:Don't jump to conclusions until you know all the facts.
Reply:well if the starter bolts were lose then it would let it slip and jump around and not mesh right and cause broken teeth on the starter and flywheel and replaing the fly whell involves some serious labor if the motor is back in the car but the real culpret is the lose starter bolts and who left them lose
Reply:Is it just the starter,or flywheel and starter for $ 600. Try another shop and don't tell them what going on, and see if you get the same answer.

My dog loss its tooth?
I found my dog with a missing tooth today, not sure where the tooth is but is it normal. He is only 6 mths old.
Will he get a new tooth like human and other animals
My dog loss its tooth?
Awww, poor little puppy.. You don't need to worry though. As the others have already told you, it's perfectly normal. I'm guessing that your pup is probably about way done with teething, but you still might be lucky enough to find another tooth or two. I have 3 of my dog's baby teeth in her scrapbook.
Puppies have no teeth at birth, and grow deciduous teeth beginning their second week of life. At three months of age, the deciduous teeth begin to be replaced by the permanent teeth.
The replacement process begins with the incisors, and moves backwards through the canines, premolars and finally the molars.
The turnover process is usually complete by the time the dog is eight months old, with none of the original 28 deciduous teeth remaining. Most deciduous teeth are swallowed with food and never seen by the pet owner. Occasionally a deciduous tooth is merely pushed to the side and retained next to the permanent tooth. Retained deciduous teeth can be removed by a veterinarian.
The incisors turn over from deciduous to permanent from two to four months of age. The canines usually convert around six months of age. The premolars and molars follow in that order, with the last permanent molar erupting around eight months of age.
Dogs have 28 deciduous (temporary) teeth and 42 permanent teeth.
Reply:puppies lose their teeth, it's completely normal. they'll grow their adult teeth, just like us. :-) Dont worry about it. :)
Reply:Yes he lost a milk tooth (baby tooth) He will loose all his teeth including the molars. New adult will grow back in their places.
Reply:yes it will get teeth back it has happened to my dog there is nothing wrong its very natural
Reply:It's normal, they begin losing teeth around 4 months of age. The most probable reason why you didn't find it is this: the puppy teeth usually come out when they are eating so they swallow it. You many see it come out another end soon enough...if you know what I mean!!! LOL - no worries, it's totally normal:)
Reply:Yes! They lose teeth like baby's. Don't worry it'll regrow
Reply:just put it under the dog's pillow and wait for the fairy dog mother, lol
Reply:This is completely normal. Puppies lose their teeth just like little kids do. An adult dog tooth will grow in place of it.

Gum graft question?
Could you get a gum graft over a 'fake tooth' (implant, crown, etc.).
With this example here, the gums don't completely go over the fake tooth. Would a gum graft be possible to cover up the spaces you could see around the fake tooth ?
http://www.supersmiledocs.com/images/mis...
*I know there are some dentists and dental assistants that provide answers here and that is why I ask.
I'll ask my own dentist next week when we meet but I just really need to know and have some idea.
Gum graft question?
I had grafting on 3 natural teeth so I'm no expert but, I know you can't. There is nothing for the tissue to attach to. Tissue will not graft to a crown or pontic or implant because there is no blood supply. I think the question is why is your tissue receding over this spot. Good luck at the dentist!

Cleaning my new bridge?
it is a traditional bridge made of porcelain that coveres the front six teeth put in place to repair a broken tooth and misaligned teeth not to replace missing teeth i have had it for a week now and the swelling around the gums seem to have subsided but i cant seem to get the little flosser between the bridge and my gums it goes about half way in but it feels like its pokeing me in the gums and it hurts. how long does it usually take before the gums are healed and able to be flossed under the bridge work? and should I be using a standard soft brush or something else?
Thank you in advance
Cleaning my new bridge?
Yes its vry impt tat u use a soft toothbrush for brushin cos plaque is jus a soft deposit tat can be removed wif gentle brushin on a regular basis. n to clean ur bridge, use the aid of a floss threader to put the floss through n hold the floss down against ur bridge n use sweeping motion to clean it.

Parents, what would you do about this problem...is there cause for concern?
My oldest daughter is 6. She lost her first 2 teeth (the 2 bottom middle) when she was 5 and they came back fine. Well, since then she has lost one on each side of the bottom middle, her 2 front teeth, the ones on each side and one more at the top (this is 7 teeth) and none of them have returned.
At her last dentist appointment I asked the hygeinist (the dentist has never once come out to talk with me) about them-this was in Jan. She said they were fine and should come in any day. She has lost more since then...I would like to have x-rays to see if there is a problem. I am really concidering going to another dentist. There are several foods (i.e. apples, chicken) that she hasn't been able to eat since the summer...and she is really starting to get embarrased. Like today is Spring Picture day and she was trying to practice smiling without the missing teeth showing. Please give your opinion...also please no jokes.
Parents, what would you do about this problem...is there cause for concern?
If they have never done x-rays then I would definatelly go to a different dentist. If they did xrays, but it was a long time ago I would probably request a new set but you would more then likely have to pay for them since the insurance company pays for x-rays every 5 yrs or so.
Actually, now reading your question again, you said the dentist doesnt talk to you...so I would say Yes, go to a different dentist.
Reply:Take her to another dentist. I'm surprised he never came out to speak to you about this. I would get another opinion.
Reply:yes, I'd get an opinion from a second dentist, especially since your dentist won't even come examine her- that's NOT ok, even if there isn't anything specific you're concerned about...
It doesn't sound good at all that she's losing so many teeth and none are growing back. You are right to be concerned!
good luck!!
Reply:How old is she now? It sounds like she started losing teeth somewhat early b/c she started at 5 and 6 is average. Every child loses teeth differently. Some kids lose teeth and the permanents don't erupt for quite some time, while others will have to have the baby ones pulled b/c the permanents are already coming in and the babies won't budge. Have they not taken x-rays yet? Usually, they take films at the appointments and these should show the permanent teeth. If they are there, there is nothing to worry about. They will come in when they are ready. The lower front teeth erupt around 6-7 and top around 7-8. Request a panoramic x-ray if you are concerned. This will show all permanent teeth forming in the bone. However, there are signs we look for to see if teeth are coming soon w/out x-rays. Usually, the bone area will thicken, the gums will begin to form small bulges where the teeth are beginning to push underneath, etc. In general, the dental hygienist is usually the one that does all the explaining for the doc, but if you are concerned ask to talk with the doc about it.
Reply:Whoa!
You are right to be concerned--that dentist should be either re-assuring you about your daughter's late-coming teeth or finding out why she hasn't had anything growing in to replace the teeth that she has lost. There are very rare instances where people do not get teeth growing in to replace lost baby teeth ( very rare ) and then again, some people do not lose their baby teeth at all and have to go through life with small teeth.
My advice is to speak DIRECTLY to the dentist, not the hygenist. You are paying for the dental visit for a reason.
Stand up and don't be afraid of asking or at the very least, going elsewhere.
Speak the dentist right away--you owe it to your daughter and yourself to find out what is up with her missing teeth!
Good luck!

Sometimes I purposely and almost obsessively pop my jaw over and over, what could be the cause of this?
I am already certain that I have TMD(TMJ). My bite isn't perfect, i have (had) a missing tooth (permanent tooth didn't ever develop, there is now a bridge there), my jaw obviously pops and can get stuck if open too wide, and i get jaw and neck pain. I also have had a mild habit of grinding my teeth from time to time since i was young. I've read about TMD but there is nothing about making it pop on purpose or feeling like you need to keep popping it. I also noticed that when i do this, i also grind and clench my teeth. I think it very well could be a mental issue, possibly a habit i formed as a child, but I would like to know if anything may cause it or if anyone else has this problem. Any ideas or answer would be very useful and much appreciated. Thank you!
Sometimes I purposely and almost obsessively pop my jaw over and over, what could be the cause of this?
Continual popping in your jaw, getting stuck open or closed, muscle aches and headaches...These are all symptoms of TMD. You definitely should seek therapy. Is it mental you ask....could be stress can exacerbate tmd problems. This joint though is the toughest area for a dentist to treat. Dentists will give different answers because no treatment works all the time. The popping you are talking about is most likely coming from the disc between your jaw bone and the base of your skull. It aften gets trapped where it shouldn't and "pops" back in to place. The purpose of this disc is to act as a cushion between the bones but sometimes it doesn't funtion properly. Overuse (clenching, grinding, etc) can cause the joint to function improperly. Getting trapped open though is something different, this occurs when the jaw bone gets trapped on the wrong side of the eminence (DIfficult to describe without pictures). When you open, your lower jaw moves down and forward.....if your joint messes up....then the jaw ends up getting stuck in front of a bone protrusion at the base of your skull.
Treatment varies heavily. If you are a grinder, consider using nightguards. Hard or soft splints can be used (these are like mouthpieces and they keep you from grinding. Orthodontics can sometimes fix TMD if it is caused by a bad bite. Soft diets, no chewing gum or hard candies can also help. Muscle relaxants, steroid, and NSAID treatments can be used. These treatments are considered non aggressive. Aggressive therapy would be surgical removal of the disc, or the condyle, or both. Removing the eminence at the base of the skull has been used. Artificial joints have been tried. Obviously these are used in extreme cases. Having given you all these treatments...none work al that well. Like the knee joint, some people will just always have some discomfort.
Reply:making your jaw pops purposely is something you are doing on your own as if in a habit. noone can tell you why you have chose to keep doing it. but do be aware every time you do it you are messing up your jaw bone scrapping them together. i have tmd and was suposed to have surgury about 10 years ago. my mouth would get stuck open and stay that way for a long time. once i learned no to open my mouth enough for it to lock and kept from doing it for a long time it seemed to heal itself. though i can still hear it grinding sometimes when i am eating or kissing someone. i would try not to pop it as long as you can to get out of the habit. hope this helps
Reply:I do a lot of that, too, but never enough to lock open. I pop my jaw all the time; I can also grind it from side to side, and it almost sounds like I'm chewing a carrot. I also grind my teeth and have since childhood.
But I never knew there was a name for it.
Reply:I find that a little MJ always helps my TMJ.
Reply:EMILY,
AT THIS POINT IN TIME AN IMPORTANT THOUGHT IS WHAT EFFECTIVE TREATMENT IS THERE TO ALLEVIATE THE GRINDING AND/OR POPPING? SOME THINK THAT JUST A NIGHT GUARD WOULD SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. IT WILL NOT. YOU'LL JUST GRIND THE MOUTH GUARD AND THE PROBLEM WON'T GO AWAY. WHAT YOU NEED IS AN N.T.I. APPLIANCE MADE BY YOUR DENTIST. THIS APPLIANCE IS VERY COMFORTABLE TO WEAR BUT IT WILL NOT ALLOW YOUR TEETH TO COME TOGETHER TO BITE TOGETHER. THIS IS WORN AT NIGHT WHILE SLEEPING, BUT MAY ALSO BE WORN DURING THE DAY -- AS LONG AS YOU'RE NOT EATING.
THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN THERE SINCE CHILDHOOD BECAUSE SINCE THEN AT NIGHT YOU HAVE HABITUALLY BEEN GRINDING AT NIGHT. THIS APPLIANCE WILL RETRAIN YOUR MUSCULATURE TO NOT GRIND AGAIN AND THIS HABIT WILL STOP.
Reply:Omg, i do the same thing, i also have tmj, i used to see a specialist for it, he gave me exersizes to help me chew, or just open my mouth in the right alignment, its kinda hard to do it the right way after doing it the wrong way for so long! but if you put your finger on the bottom of your chin not pressing or anything...just open and close your mouth, you can feel when your not doing it right, it helped me but ive slacked off from it lol but as far as clenching, and grinding and popping my jaw purposley...same thing again! i think the jaw popping is from habit... what i do for grinding and clenching (dont know if its better...but figure its better cause its softer lol) is if i get the urge to clench my teeth, i bite down on the inside of my cheeks, or the sides of my tongue instead...not so it hurts lol but just enough so i get my "fix" lol :)...Good luck!!
Reply:How about a neck issue? You do this, along with the other people who posted, because you mechanically stimulate endorphins to be released near the joint. Endorphins are your bodies morphine. You are getting your "fix" as one other commented. If you want to stop, you need treatment. If you don't, you will end up with a permanent, painful condition everytime you move your jaw.

1199 Dental Insurance?
I'm under my mom and I lost my insurance several months ago because I took the semester off from college. I just got reinstated few weeks ago. Anyways, a few months ago I lost several of my fillings--in succession. Because of this when I accidentally bit down on a steak bone I lost two of my right back teeth (not right away) and one of them is only half gone, some is still embedded on the bottom. On my left, my top back teeth has a big hole and my tooth is throbbing! Directly below it is another that lost a huge chunk of the filling. I'm so embarassed going to the dentist. I couldn't do anything about it during the time I had no insurance. I have an appointment this friday but I don't think they cover bridges, crowns or whatever they do to replace my missing teeth. What should I do?
1199 Dental Insurance?
Don't be embarrassed!Dentists have seen worse teeth than yours. At least you are starting to get them fixed.
Reply:It is up to your insurance. some will only cover certin procedures however they also have to take into consideration on recurrence. My dental insurance did not want to cover permeant replacements they wanted to cover pop outs only until my dentist explained it would have to replaced every 3-4 years they quickly sang another tune and paid for the permanent with replacement as needed. Good luck
Reply:Don't be, I can tell that I went to the dentist on friday because I had a tooth pulled ,and it's been 10 years for me
Reply:no need to feel scared.
Reply:Crowns and bridges are very expensive, like $1000-3000 each. some dental office let you apply for a credit acct aand then you can make pymnts on what your ins does not cover

Broken maryland bridge, insurance not cover repairs?
This is a tough question...
I have a fake front tooth held in place by a maryland bridge. My tooth got knocked out when I was 9. The bridge has held up for about 20 years. Now it is "falling down" (maryland bridge is faling down, falling down, falling do...). I need to get it replaced. My dentist strongly advised an implant. Also said maryland replacement (re-cement) will most likey fall out again as perhaps teeth are shifted.??
I am all for whatever will last a long time and be semi stable.
PROBLEM- there is a clause in my MET insurance that a missing tooth repair, etc is not covered AT ALL.
So I am basically going into this with no insurance coverage.
I was told an implant is roughly 4K. Unfortunately I do not have 4K at this time. (in grad school, new house, new car- gulp!). Anyone know of any way to get through insurance to help my case? OR anyone know of any alternative procedure that is not "quick fix"? I am prepared to pay 2K or so, I do want a solid structure.
Broken maryland bridge, insurance not cover repairs?
Missing Tooth Clause does not matter if this is a replacement of prosthetics, iit does when it's initial placement and tooth was extracted prior to coverage so ask your dentist...it also depends when was your maryland bridge placed and what is your replacement time in your insurance...but if your replacement time is 10 years you should be fine even that tooth was extracted prior to coverage....but once again ask your dentist, b/c I'm not sure how it works when replacing maryland bridge .....we never do it in our office.
If implant is to expensive you can have a bridge done but then you will be cutting your healthy teeth under crowns, so it's really up to you what you want to do

Which is better, a bridge or a partial plate?
A front tooth broke off at root and could not be fixed. I had a partial made for missing tooth two years ago (cheaper option). The partial is out of my mouth more than in. I find it very uncomfortable. I can have a bridge made for 5 front teeth (very expensive). Wondering if a bridge is better as age (over 50) and soft teeth are a factor.
Which is better, a bridge or a partial plate?
There are several factors to consider. In no particular order:
money! As you have already stated a partial is less expensive than a bridge.
Other teeth: If the teeth that the bridge is going to be cemented to are already fragile, then you are just going to be adding much more unwanted pressure to those teeth. And with them being front teeth, you will not be able to bite anything (corn on the cob, apple...)
cleaning: you will have to pay close attention to the cleaning process if you get a bridge. you can get an odor from food caught under the bridge. You can at least take the partial out of your mouth to clean it.
comfort! Yes a bridge will be more comfortable. However, you should be able to go back to the dentist for adjustments on you partial. the clasps will need to be loosened or tightened and pressure spots will need to be released.
If I were going to get something just judging by you description, I would get a partial. Over all, a partial is more convenient. I was just able to talk my mother into getting a partial. She was in your same situation and she loves hers. She just had to get her adjustments until it fit like she wanted it to.
Good luck and Happy smiling!
Reply:At age 50 a bridge isn't going to be any better in your mouth then a partial plate, I have a partial plate that I have had for eight years now because I got a few teeth knocked out and like you said it is cheaper then a bridge. The only differences I can see is a bridge will weaken the other teeth around it, where a partial plate hooks onto the teeth around it.

Braces for teen?
I have an underbite, 2 missing teeth in the back and it's not my wisdom teeth, and a crooked tooth. Do i need to pull out any teeth or do surgery?
Braces for teen?
The best option is to have a consultation with an orthodontist who will take impressions of your teeth and an xray to look at how your teeth are place in relation to the jaw. After the consultation the orthodontist can tell you how the treatment will proceed and the cost. I have seen cases like yours that are done without surgical treatment and I would not expect that you would need teeth removed. Have your dentist give you a recommendation or ask a friend or collegue for a recommendation. Then you can make an educated decision. Hope that helps!

How do you start up a grant foundation?
My History:
I was born without four permanent teeth. I am now 23 years old and have had braces for over ten years now to move teeth I do have into their correct position and prepare my mouth for some permanent solution. I am now at the point where I am ready to FINALLY take that next step but options are limited and outrageously expensive for one missing tooth, let alone four. The only options I can afford (bridges or denture like replacements) will never be ideally functional and require maintenance down the line. My best option and really only desirable option is to have implants. This requires multiple bone grafting surgeries as well as the implantations themselves...all totalling well over $25,000. I just graduated from college, have a limited amount of credit, and no way to pay for my teeth. The problem is that almost no insurance companies cover this because they say it is cosmetic.

Ick! Please Help?
Ick! Please Help?
If you have already been on erythromycin for 2 days and you aren't better, you should change your antibiotic. I recommend 800000 U penicillin (1injection),%26amp; 250mg metronidazole tablets+500 mg cephalexin capsules every 6 hours for 5 days. in this way your abscess will become better so your pain would be gone! but becarefull these antibiotics are so strong and you may develop a additive fungal infection so you may need multivitamins to avoid that.
Reply:What can you do but go and see what your insurance will handle. You may be able to get on a payment plan for the rest.
Reply:All that damage in just a few months? Your teeth must be rotting from years of neglect. Get yourself to the dentist now!
Reply:Do what you can afford. Stop the pain.
Reply:you are still going to have to go to the dentists no matter what, and I am going to suggest do what they say you need to have done, you might wind up owing them a thousand dollars or so but if you need to have it done then you need to have it done, besides it is either that or have them all yanked out and get dentures which will be just as expensive if not more so
Reply:2 choices 1 suffer and wait for the nerve to die or 2 get over the embarrassment and go to the dentist and consider a partial

When is it time to get Dentures?
I just went to the dentist today. After insurance, I will owe over $3700.00. The work I need done: bridge for 1 missing tooth, 2 root canals, and crowns for 4 teeth, I also have gum problems, 90% of the work needed is on my upper teeth. I asked the dentist today, after I saw the estimate, about dentures for the top. She said that she would not recommend it (do they not recommend it because they want the money- almost $10,000 between me an my insurance). I am 40 years old. Is it always better to "save" your teeth, are dentures really that bad? I will not look forward to the extraction but after that.....will it be ok?
When is it time to get Dentures?
the dentist is telling you this to get money
if this one wont take them all out at once in hospital look for a dentist who will or go to a dental school to have them pulled (cheaper)
also it costs about 1,200.bucks not 10,000 to have an upper plate put in
Reply:You should seek the opinions of several dentists before making such a major decision.
That said, I always tell patients that it is better to save their teeth if possible. However, if it's not financially possible, you may need to consider alternatives.
All of the work you need does not have to be done "right now". You'll want the root canals as soon as possible, but crowns and bridges can generally wait just a bit.
Consult other dentists in your area so you can be confident in your decisions.

Also, dentures required adaquate bone support. The earlier in life you get dentures, the sooner the boney ridge the dentures are seated on starts the 'wear down'... hence why they have so many comercials for fixodent and other types of denture adhesives.
At 40 I would think dentures are not a good idea, the longer you could post pone it the better. I would advise keeping the plan your dentist has made for you.
If the bridge is primarily for esthetics (looks)maybe you could ask about waiting on getting the bridge?? this may help reduce the cost
hope this helps a little! good luck :)
Reply:You're dentist is probably right to not recommend the denture over fixing your natural teeth. There is NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING better than having your own teeth. Dentures are like any other prosthetic, mostly for looks and very little for function. Teeth that are in denture are basically made of plastic; how do you think chewing with those will be? Trust me, $3,700 out of pocket is worth keeping your teeth in health. You could always look into getting the work done at a dental school or see if your dentist accepts Care Credit. It's like a credit card for dental needs. They pay the dentist the money owed to them and then you pay them back in monthly installments. Don't be afraid to get a second opinion, but let it be known that for every dentist you see, you're more than likely to get a totally different opinion. Good luck.

Hal Huggins answers the most commonly asked questions about root canals:
Why should I not have a ROOT CANAL done?
Root canals are recommended when a tooth has been fractured, or when decay has entered the nerve chamber and created much pain. Often the body calcifies the tooth membranes, and allows it to remain. Unusual as it sounds, the body does not like dead structures in it, and a healthy body will try to reject it. Pain requiring antibiotics and pain pills are frequently used until the immune system stops working in that area. Root canals produce toxins that can increase or create many autoimmune diseases.
Is laser treatment for cleaning of root canals and cavitations considered a safe treatment?
In both root canal sockets and cavitation linings, the big concern is the anaerobic bacteria. These are ones that live in the absence of oxygen. Botulism and gangrene are examples of anaerobic bacterial action. Bad bugs. If laser can kill all the bacteria, who is going to remove the dead bacteria, or the dead bone lining the sockets? There is no blood supply here. Laser only kills, does not clean debris. Other techniques are required to leave a clean area that can fill in with bone and new blood vessels.
____________________________
There is no way to disinfect a root canal. No matter how clean the area is or how free of bacteria, there are always bacteria in the tubules and they will grow. And, the more antibiotics taken or applied, the more antibiotic resistant, and stronger, they will become.
Root canals are the most toxic most damaging procedure dentists can do. You have two options: a root canal or an extraction. Dentists usually fill root canals with gutta percha. Some use the Sargenti method, a popular treatment used by 25% of dentists, but denounced by the American Dental Association because it contains formaldehyde compounds. There have been a lot of problems with those. They used to contain lead. The current formulas are said to have removed the lead, but millions of root canal treatments using the old formulas are still in people's mouths. Gutta percha is 15% barium so that it will show up in the X-ray. Gutta percha shrinks and leaves gaps and the tooth can never be sterile. There is no such thing as a sterile root canal. During a root canal, the main canal is filled and possibly some of the small side canals, but the other smaller canal-like structures in teeth called dentinal tubules are too tiny to be filled during treatment and these tubules become home to bacteria instead. Since there are millions of these tubules there is room for enough bacteria to challenge the immune system. The waste products from these nasty germs include some very toxic substances called thio-ethers, and your body has to deal with these toxins 24 hours a day. They contaminate the bone around the tooth and they are picked up by the immune system and carried to the liver for detoxification. Unfortunately, the liver can be seriously damaged by them. Weston Price conducted research on root canals and wrote two books about how toxic they can be. So you have to make up your mind what is more important to you. I believe no tooth is worth destroying my immune system. by Jerome, Frank, D.D.S. (812) 376-8525, Columbus Indiana, Author of "Tooth Truth"

MJ You're assuming that ALL root-filled teeth harbor bacteria and/or other infective agents?
GM Yes. No matter what material or technique is used - and this is just as true today - the root filling shrinks minutely, perhaps microscopically. Further and this is key - the bulk of solid appearing teeth, called the dentin, actually consists of miles of tiny tubules. Microscopic organisms lurking in the maze of tubules simply migrate into the interior of the tooth and set up housekeeping. A filled root seems to be a favorite spot to start a new colony.
One of the things that makes this difficult to understand is that large, relatively harmless bacteria common to the mouth, change and adapt to new conditions. They shrink in size to fit the cramped quarters and even learn how to exist (and thrive!) on very little food. Those that need oxygen mutate and become able to get along without it. In the process of adaptation these formerly friendly "normal" organisms become pathogenic (capable of producing disease) and more virulent (stronger) and they produce much more potent toxins.
Today's bacteriologists are confirming the discoveries of the Price team of bacteriologists. Both isolated in root canals the same strains of streptococcus, staphylococcus and spirochetes.
MJ Is everyone who has ever had a root canal filled made ill by it?
GM No. We believe now that every root canal filling does leak and bacteria do invade the structure. But the variable factor is the strength of the person's immune system. Some healthy people are able to control the germs that escape from their teeth into other areas of the body. We think this happens because their immune system lymphocytes (white blood cells) and other disease fighters aren't constantly compromised by other ailments. In other words, they are able to prevent those new colonies from taking hold in other tissues throughout the body. But over time, most people with root filled teeth do seem to develop some kinds of systemic symptoms they didn't have before.
MJ It's really difficult to grasp that bacteria are imbedded deep in the structure of seemingly-hard, solid looking teeth.
GM I know. Physicians and dentists have that same problem, too. You really have to visualize the tooth structure - all of those microscopic tubules running through the dentin. In a healthy tooth, those tubules transport a fluid that carries nourishment to the inside. For perspective, if the tubules of a front single-root tooth, were stretched out on the ground they'd stretch for three miles!
A root filled tooth no longer has any fluid circulating through it, but the maze of tubules remains. The anaerobic bacteria that live there seem remarkably safe from antibiotics. The bacteria can migrate out into surrounding tissue where they can "hitch hike" to other locations in the body via the bloodstream. The new location can be any organ or gland or tissue, and the new colony will be the next focus of infection in a body plagued by recurrent or chronic infections.
All of the "building up" done to try to enhance the patient's ability to fight infections - to strengthen their immune system - is only a holding action. Many patients won't be well until the source of infection - the root canal tooth - is removed
--------------------------------------...
In 2001, Dr. Mark Breiner, of Connecticut, author of Whole Body Dentistry:Discover the Missing Piece to Better Health, was disciplined and fined $5,000 in December 2001 for advising patients that their mercury fillings and root canals could be contributing to their health problems. His disciplinary actions were categorized under fraud/deceit/incompetence/negligence in his consent order. Now tell me who is practicing fraud? A dentist who tells his patients that the fillings are not just silver, but mostly mercury, or the American Dental Association and the Connecticut Department of Public Health who doesn't want the public to know about the harmful effects of mercury fillings?
In his consent order the DPH also told him you "shall not remove teeth that have undergone root canal treatment that cannot be corrected by treatment of the root canal itself, retrograde filling or surgical apioectomy, or in which the root canal is fractured, without first providing the patient with the names and telephone numbers of two medical professionals approved by the Department with whom the patient may consult as to the traditional medical position on the planned treatment."
So if a root canal was causing health problems in a patient, Dr. Breiner was not to remove it, but to put in a retrograde filling. That means he was to put mercury down under the gumline and surgical apioectomy means he was to put mercury down in the root of the tooth, after cutting into the gums down at the root. Can you imagine mercury, not just on top of your teeth, but also down in the meat of your gums, down at the tip of your roots where it is in contact with your flesh?
Manufacturers of amalgam fillings warn against the placement of retrograde fillings. But that is what dentists do to "save" a root canal. We have testimonies at DAMS of severe poisoning by mercury used in a surgical apioectomy.
Dr. Breiner got in trouble again with the Connecticut Department of Public Health when he wrote an editorial to the Connecticut Post newspaper warning against mercury fillings when there was a mercury spill in a local high school. According to a press release from Consumers for Dental Choice.
Dr Hal Huggins, D.D.S. in a lecture to the Cancer Control Society 1993:
Then we get into the root canal business, and that is the most tragic of all.
Isn't there something you can put in the centre of the canal that is safe?
Yeah, there probably is, but that is not where the problem is. The problem with a root canal is that it is dead. Lets equate that. Lets say you have got a ruptured appendix, so you go to the phone book, and who do you look up? Lets see, we have a surgeon and a taxidermist, who do you call? You going to get it bronzed?
That is all we do to a dead tooth. We put a gold crown on it, looks like it has been bronzed. It doesn't really matter what you embalm the dead tooth with, it is still dead, and within that dead tooth we have bacteria, and these bacteria are in the absence of oxygen. In the absence of oxygen most things die except bacteria. They undergo something called a pleomorphic change...like a mutation. they learn to live in the absence of oxygen…now produce thioethers, some of the strongest poisons on the planet that are not radioactive.
These get out into the body and you may notice in the medical literature of 1900 they mentioned a few heart attacks, so it wasn’t a big deal in 1900, but by 1910 2% of the US population, which is a lot of folks had had heart attacks. By 1920---10% of the population had had heart attacks, and we are up to about 25% about 10 years ago, and everywhere you go you see joggers running around. Menus in the restaurant have this little heart over it because we are on low cholesterol diets …….so what has it done. It has dropped the 25% down to around 43% . We are going in the wrong direction and root canals are going up. In 1990 we did 17 million of them. This last year we did 23 million, and the ADA hopes by the year 2000 we reach 30 million a year.
Weston Price knew this back in 1920 - he would take a person who had had a heart attack, take out the tooth with the root canal, take a little segment of it, put it under the skin of a rabbit.
We have done this with guinea pigs, and in about 10 days that rabbit would die of a heart attack. And you could take it out and put it under the skin of another rabbit, and in 10 days he would die of a heart attack……he would do this to 30 rabbits and every one of them in 97% of the cases would die of heart disease. What if they didn’t have heart disease? If they had something else, the rabbit picks up the something else, but all of them that we have tested in this way have ended up with an auto immune disease in the kidney, and if you look at the work of Joseph Issels in Germany who for 40 years treated terminal cancer cases. He started on them when they had already had their chemo, surgery, radiation, then they came to him. That is having 3 strikes against you and a fast ball down the tube there before you get up to the plate. He turned around 24% of 16,000 patients over a period of 40 years. What is the first thing he did? Have a dentist take out the root canal teeth.
...I have this shirt tail relative down there [Texas] about 24 years old, and she has brain cancer, so what do they do? They take out half her brain. Then it comes back so they take out the other half of her brain. Then it comes back a third time, and there is not much left to take out. Now they probably didn’t take out half, I may have stretched the point there a bit, but she was still fully functional, but it was right smack full in the middle of the brain. Three tumors growing, three root canals, and she is pregnant, and it is hard to overcome the stress to the body that pregnancy does, much less trying to overcome cancer, much less trying to overcome the root canals.
So we took out those 3 root canals when she had 3-6 months to live. And that was 6 years ago, and she is still alive today, and MRI can't find the tumor anymore. It went away.
So there are a lot of things, and this is just a tip of this giant chunk of ice under the water that has been making us think we are normal when we have all of these things going on in our body that we caught at the dental office-..it is time you were informed.
Reply:It's always best to try to save your own teeth but remember that it takes 28 days to form a new habit. That's what the dentist said that pulled all my top teeth that could not be saved. I've had no problems with my dentures. Oklahoma has a couple of really good denturists that make dentures for very little money.

Is this normal in the process of getting a bridge dental procedure?
My husband is in the process of getting a bridge. First they extracted the partially busted tooth. Then they shaved of the two healthy teeth next to the missing tooth. He looks hideous. They said the next step is to insert the bridge next week and then he'll look great. Is this a normal procedure? Will his teeth look great when this is over? Wil the teeth on either side not look shaved off? Is this worth the $1800, the pain and frustration or should we have just one with the temporary that doesn't last very long and can pop out unexpectedly?
Is this normal in the process of getting a bridge dental procedure?
Generally a temporary bridge is placed between appointments. The supporting teeth should look normal when the bridge is placed. It does seem unusual that temporary crowns were not used between appointments, but I do not know the specific situation. You should not have gone with a temporary bridge for long term use.
Reply:my mom said they like pull the teeth thats getting the bridge grind them up and make new teeth that are better i am preety sure thats what she said unless i missed heard
Reply:This seems very unusual to me. I have never heard of a patient being prepared for a bridge and not having temporaries placed. A temporary bridge serves a number of purposes, two of which are to hold the prepared teeth in the exact position they were in when the bridge impression was made so the new bridge will fit over them accurately and second, to prevent sensitivity. I really can't imagine why a bridge would be made without temporaries but I don't know what the conditions are. I have heard of some discount dental clinics not doing temporaries or charging extra for them on single crowns tho.

Any one have to get Dentures or partial Dentures at a young age?
Just looking for anyone to help. I am 32. Need upper partial denture or 3 root canals. Already have on missing tooth from a broken root canal. Not sure what to do? Would have to get other teeth extracted that have fillings in them to get the partial. Always had nice teeth. Never a cavity until I got pregnant at 21. I am freaking out. I know these teeth are in the back but will a partial affect your good teeth. Will I eventually get full set of upper dentures?
Any one have to get Dentures or partial Dentures at a young age?
Hi,
My sister recently got dentures. She is 34. She had the same problem you are having, she had to make a hard decision to either keep what little teeth she could salvage (knowing that any day they would go rotten also) or just bite the bullet and get them pulled and put dentures in their place. After factoring in costs of dental visits and any changes that would have to be made should the teeth she kept go bad, she decided on the full set of dentures. Of course, the time to heal was horrible for her because she didn't have teeth and they couldn't fit her for dentures until her mouth healed, but looking back, she has mentioned many times that she made the right choice. It just came down to this, no more toothaches. She looks wonderful and has never smiled more!!
Reply:As long as the rest of your teeth are in good shape, you can keep them for life, just make sure you take good care of them and get regular check-ups. Why are they extracting the teeth with fillings? You want to get those restored even if it takes root canals, just so you won't lose those teeth. Keeping your natural (restored) teeth is much better than losing them and getting teeth to replace them. A partial won't affect your teeth. I don't know what teeth you have missing but a bridge could be an option if you don't want a removable appliance.
Reply:I had a partial at the age of 26.
I had a filling fall out and the tooth wasnt salvagable, I had a choice between destroying 2 good teeth to get a crown, or just having a partial for the one tooth, I choose the later and I am glad I did 10 years later.
If you only need the partial for the one tooth, you shouldnt have to have the other teeth pulled for this, they can make you a one tooth "flipper" for that tooth, it has prongs that fit snuggly around the two supporting teeth. If they pulled those, sounds like you would have a non removable crown.
This doesnt have anything to do with wheather you will have full dentures or not, just continue to brush and floss several times a day and you should be ok.
Reply:Have done many partials %26amp; a few dentures on patients younger than you. I t is usually because teeth were neglected but not always Partials are much better than dentures if any of you teeth can be saved!! Doc W

Dental work - is the quote I received reasonable?
I have two cracked teeth that are in bad condition. I just came from my dentist who x-rayed the teeth and came up with two solutions. This is what has to be done:
One tooth requires a root canal, but it can be saved
The other tooth has broken beneath the gum and will be extracted completely.
After these two procedures, a bridge will be built between the missing teeth, and a crown made for each.
The estimated cost of these procedures is $5,125.00. My insurance will only cover $1,000.00, which will leave me with a bill of $4,125.00. I have not had dental work done in about 25 years, and so I do not know what the going rates are for this kind of work. Can someone tell me if this is a reasonable cost for these procedures? Thank you.
Dental work - is the quote I received reasonable?
Wow. I went to NYU Dental School in NYC because they were the cheapest place I could find. Extractions are $90 or $100. I've had 3 taken out so far without any problems. They also charge approx. $800-1300 (possibly even less) for root canals plus crowns. This is the cost without insurance. I'm looking into bridgework but I haven't gotten the quotes yet.
You're estimate sounds like a slightly high average for a private practice. I'm not surprised. I know someone that was charged $6000 for way less work than what you are having done!
Reply:i had root canal it was $800.00 but my insurance covered most of it.. out of pocket was $220.00 .. sounds like ur insurance sucks...check out other dentist offices and get prices...
Reply:I pay about 900.00 for a root canal and crown. A bridge is quite expensive and I was quoted about 5,000 - 6,0000 dollars for a tooth implant which is somewhat different than your bridge. Just make sure that the teeth that the bridge will be connected to are strong enough to hold the bridge. That is why I had to look at the implant as the bone structure next to the tooth that is missing now was not strong enough. Good luck.
Reply:Extraction of broken tooth ~ $200
Root canal on a molar ~ $1,000
Post and core in RC tooth ~ $250
3-unit bridge ~ $2,400-3,000
Chewing food again ~ PRICELESS
I think the figure over $5,000 is on the high end, but you might be in Manhattan...
Reply:it seems kind of high. I'm not no dentist, but I 'v had 3 root canals.each root canal cost like 1,000.00 each. 4 years ago and my insurance payed 50% of the cost,so I payed $500 for a root canal. This is the cost in the state of Maine.I also had to go 4 times for a root canal.

Reply:WOW!!! I know what your going through!! I had root canal done on the lower left of my mouth which got a crown and I just broke a tooth in half two weeks ago which needs crown as well. Let me tell you without insurance OR Health benefits thats a correct amount.
A root canal runs for over $900.00 dollars with the link below its something like $ 4 or $5 hundred dollars. The link below will tell you the amounts. Taking out a tooth and getting crowns is also cheaper.
They can save your up to 80% on all your dental work!!
It cost $11.95 for an individual and $19.95 for an entire household. Along with Dental you get Free Vision, Free Prescription and Free Chiropractic Care.
I use these benefits everytime I need work done. If you need help or want to know of a provider in your area send me an email with your zip code and I wouldn't mind looking that up for you.
I wish you the best of luck with your teeth
I would never recommend getting rid of insurance for health benefits...This is only an option that might help you save money.
