Is it possible to get a straight labret peircing? One that doesn't rub your teeth?

I want a centered below lip (mid chin) labret piercing, one that doesn't rub your teeth.

I've actually had 2 failed attempts. The first time I got it done I went to a new tattoo shop, BIG MISTAKE! They not only did it off center (completely missed the dot they drew) but the did it crooked too so that it was more centered in the front then it was in the back which caused you to look at the side of the jewelry while looking straight at me.

Needless to say it stayed in less than 2 hours before I gave up on trying to attempt at holding it centered (figured it would eventually heal correctly if I could force it into the correct position. ALSO, it rubbed the hell out of my teeth and made my gums bleed profusely (I brush my teeth 2 times a day, my gums are not sensitive. Oh and did I mention they didn't use a clamp when they did it?

The next time I tried it I went to a very reputable tattoo/piercing shop. However the guy still pierced it VERY off center. I took it out almost immediately.

I guess it all comes down to the luck of the piercer really. My labret was done at home, by a friends sister who had done the course, so we just went nuts at the time lol

Mine is perfectly centred and with the shorter bar that i use, i havent had any trouble with it rubbing my teeth at all, as it had the thin flat backing that most of them have. Believe it or not, my 2 bottom front teeth are the best i have in my mouth these days lol

You might also find that if they pierce it and use a thinner bar with a smaller ball, this will also help in it looking not so lopsided. Occasionally when my ball falls out and i need a replacement, i only have old banana bar balls hanging around and they just look odd, u know what i mean?

I would def ask around, people u know, and go to a place that is reputable and specialises in piercings. Insist that they do it right, make sure u check it before they pierce it and double INSIST that they use the clamp. This is necessary to get the positioning correct. It really shouldnt hurt u to get it done, but then again, piercing thru scar tissue can cause pain, so perhaps ask for some numbing gel just to ease ur discomfort. I really do hope u find the right place to do what u want, god, i would be lost without my labret, its what makes me, me. If u were in Sydney, i could tell u a few places... LOL if wishes were fishes ;) best of luck hun, take care
Reply:FWIW, I wouldn't "insist" anything at a piercing place. If they're about to piece you without a clamp, don't insist that they use one -- insist on walking out! You sound like you've gone to AWFUL places. What bad luck! Report It

Reply:You could try a vertical labret piercing - it goes only through the lip %26amp; doesn't touch your teeth.
Reply:well---not using a clamp is fuced up!-ouch--ive noticed the younger ppl r a little better for that area- (piercers). but-in that area it will look ''off'' or unlevel for a month or 2-then look even. call everywhere n ask how they do it-dont say u had a bad time b4. (some wont touch u) n- no all the ppl i know who have it have holes in their gums n broken teeth from the metals.(i have other places done n all had to be clamped) -good luck!-call n call some more %26amp; look in to the ppl who r doin them. u can watch them pierce too-just ask.
Reply:why not consider a center lip piercing (which is different from a labret, sits higher and the friends that I know who have gotten it done have had little to no problems with it rubbing/hitting their teeth.)?

OR

get a dermal anchor done. that wouldn't go through your mouth at all and would completely eliminate the risk of messing up your teeth and gums.
